"I am very pleased to confirm that we will resume at Luxembourg this coming Friday (5 June), absorbed and collected. I have been reconstructed by a Wiltshire hospital and I am as close to good health as I'm likely to get.

I apologize to everyone caught up in the to-ing and fro-ing, but the disappointment of postponement is less than the disappointment of hearing me sing on one engine.

I should stress that nothing has been canceled. The four London concerts are repositioned in July, and both Birmingham and the Royal Albert Hall are October fixtures. I've endured a titanic struggle against an intolerable virus lately, and although Hull, Hartlepool and Manchester were nights that comprised a whole life, the physical limits were reached. False notes crush the soul.

Besides Luxembourg and beyond, I am excited about the October release of Swords, which is an 18-track compilation of b-side of singles from the last three albums. This will be a Polydor release.

Thanks to everyone who bought 'Years of Refusal'. We were the number one seller in the UK for the week of release, but, as with 'You Are The Quarry' and 'Your Arsenal', we were booted off the number one spot on the last hour of the final day. We cried.

I would like to point out that some passable creature is using my name and sending sharply chiseled replies to people via Twitter, MySpace and Facebook. This person is not me. Not enough happens in my life that I would wish to share it with others. I do not scan these sites – or whatever they are - so I can only hope that whoever is posing as me is at least worth talking to. Beware of false imitations.

Thanks for reading these unvarnished facts, and thanks for giving us some greatly enjoyable nights on the Refusal tour.

Absolutely yours,
Morrissey."

Looking at an advertisement the other day for Morrissey's forthcoming gig at The Oasis Swindon,Wiltshire, England. Can't believe he's playing in my home town. The Actress Diana Dors was born here one of Mozzer's heroes. Anyway at the bottom it says "Swords the B-Side album" coming soon. Does anyone know anything about this? Hope the track "My Dearest Love" is on there. It would be great to have that one on CD. Thanks From a Morrissey loving Swindonian

Morrissey: El solitario inconforme

Caught in my shadow: 21 unjustly unheralded sidemen - A.V. Club

"4-5. Boz Boorer and Alain Whyte, Morrissey’s band
After taking a failed stab at new wave stardom as a member of the glam-rockabilly act The Polecats, guitarist Boz Boorer joined Alain Whyte as the dual-guitar frontline of Morrissey’s solo lineup in the early ’90s. Together, the two have quietly, humbly produced a fantastic body of work for their boss since then, seamlessly combining just about every form of British rock that’s existed since the ’50s. (Though Whyte recently left the touring band, he continues to contribute to Morrissey’s albums.) Their accomplishments are even more impressive considering Boorer and Whyte will always be compared to some degree to Johnny Marr, the genius guitarist who propelled Morrissey to fame the first time around in The Smiths. "

the story also mentions Billy Duffy, Graham Coxon

Book Notes - William Walsh ("Questionstruck") - Largehearted Boy

May 28, 2009

In his own words, here is William Walsh's Book Notes music playlist for his book, Questionstruck: A Collection of Question-Based Texts Derived from the Books of Calvin Trillin:

Questionstruck is a book of interrogatives, so here’s a mixtape of songs titled with questions. I’ve pulled questions from Calvin Trillin’s books that speak in some way to the songs.

“How Soon Is Now?” The Smiths

“Was it possible that he had found himself among the sort of cultists who beat up elderly vegetarians?” (Killings, 1984)

Book Notes - Matthew Vollmer ("Future Missionaries of America") - Largehearted boy

In his own words, here is Matthew Vollmer's Book Notes music playlist for his short story collection, Future Missionaries of America:

The Smiths, "There Is a Light that Never Goes Out"

In "Future Missionaries of America," an atheist teenage girl (Alex) compulsively writes letters to a fundamentalist Christian boy (Melashenko), who also happens to be her partner in a Health class where they must take care of an unpredictable infant simulator. One night, during an ice storm, Alex and the robot baby get stranded at Melashenko's house. There, Alex discovers that his family couldn't be less like her own, and that he's been keeping a secret from her. The story ends with Alex heartbroken, and I expect that once she returns to her house, she'll dial up this beloved Smiths song, to hear Morrissey croon: "and if a double-decker bus/ smashes into us/ to be by your side/ is such a heavenly way to die."

I have to admit: I’ve never really been a Morrissey fanatic. I have a more-than-passing knowledge of The Smiths, born from a 7th grade obsession with "How Soon Is Now"...

I attended the No Doubt concert in Houston, Texas last night. Prior to the band appearing, they played a 'mix tape' for their pre-show entertainment which included The Smiths. It was exciting to witness Morrissey and Marr be projected to 17,000 people.

I was pleasantly surprised to hear Panic and Girl Afraid. Other highlights of the ND pre-show music included Girls on Film (Duran Duran), Just Can't Get Enough (Depeche Mode), Boys Don't Cry (The Cure) and Bizarre Love Triangle (New Order). Oh... and the show was awesome too.
