Morrissey bio - Lost Highway

YEARS OF REFUSAL

In a room, you are sat with Morrissey, and someone else, who might be there to make the conversation go with a little more of a swing than it might if it was just Morrissey and you. Is this person his one and only friend ? You cannot help but think things such as this when in the company of the playful reclusive Morrissey, who has, with relish and exasperation, let many rumour swirl around his life and career, or watched helplessly as people pile on scandal, accusation and outrage, to the extent that all that we really know of him we have to make up based on his songs, which give away far too much information to be reliably confessional, or his extravagantly plotted public reputation, which makes him out to be more of a sacred monster - possibly with some kind of anatomical grotesquerie - than, to be honest, he really is...

German news magazine "Der Spiegel" features a one-page-interview with Morrissey in issue nr. 4 (Jan. 19). Unfortunately it´s not featured on their website.

Morrissey states he´s become more easy-going, relaxed & tolerant & he´s feeling better the older he gets. Says he doesn´t have a mobile phone (he´d die from paranoia if he had one) & doesn´t have a home these days. Then he talks a bit about his statements concerning the loss of English identity last year & the diminishing value of music nowadays.

The interview is relaxed & Morrissey comes across as quite serene. A nice read.

It’s All Kicking Off... - London Tourdates

The pressure is on for Doll and the Kicks as they prepare to show their wares to Morrissey fans. Michael Wylie-Harris finds them in bullish mood

Excerpt (most likely in reference to these comments on a previous story, "Morrissey Brixton Academy 3 nights residency in 2009 (to be confirmed), support and Radio 2 recording"):

...“We did have a couple of people on the Morrissey forum expressing their disgust that we had been asked to support and one even said ‘if they are supporting I’m not going out of principle’, and I thought ‘what principle?’ That doesn’t even make any sense. Anyway, he got caned by the other users after that!” says Doll. Yes, it’s not just a stage name… “I always wanted to have one name, kind of like Madonna.

Former Smiths' guitarist takes time from working with Neil Finn and the Cribs to teach on University of Salford music degree

January 18, 2009

Cliff Jones

Johnny Marr is a textbook definition of a “busy working musician”. Currently in New Zealand, recording with Neil Finn, the former Smiths guitarist flies back at the end of the month and heads straight into the studio with the Cribs. And, somehow, he must also find time to plan his next lecture to the students on the popular-musicology degree course at the University of Salford.
