The wonderful American band Elefant from New York did a cover of "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want" for the soundtrack of the movie 'Sky High'.

I thought I was going crazy but I just double checked the Sky High soundtrack on amazon. It appears in the scene where young Stronghold is moping on his roof about being a sidekick/having no powers. Just thought I'd share.

Ruiner - A Willhelm Scream, Aversion.com review

...“Me Vs. Morrissey in the Pretentiousness Contest (The Ladder Match)” is a dose of everything pop punk was designed for, as it overflows with raging guitars and thunderous drums amid throaty, growled vocals that miraculously carry a tune. Best of all, there isn’t a radio-friendly element in sight.

This is a bit old now- I've been sittin on it for weeks and I'm not even sure if this is still the most recent issue- but David Johansen recently graced the cover of issue #9 of Gasoline Magazine. Inside there is an article about their return including segments of an interview with guitarist Sylvain Sylvain.

During the interview, Syl compares to Morrissey to former "haberdasher" Malcolm McClaren who Syl says "later said he was our manager because he wanted to have some cred...."

"Sylvain adds, 'It's like Morrissey saying he was the president of our fan club in London! We didn't have a fuckin' fan club!'"

I thought it an odd remark, to suggest that Morrissey is copping The Dolls' "cred", since Moz has done so much for them of recent.

I went to see the Brian Jonestown Massacre play yesterday night at El Salon, in Montreal. At one point, the singer Anton Newcombe praised local band the High Dials, before expressing his opinion for other locals The Dears with the words: "Murray (Lightburn, leader of the Dears) sucks". The band's guitarist then claimed that he had the same birthdate as Morrissey, and that "everytime Murray Lightburn sucks Morrissey's dick, he's sucking mine". Which, obviously, makes total sense.

Q&A: Sons and Daughters - Spin.com

How is it that a band from Glasgow can relate to American music so well?

I don't know, really. When we first started playing we said we were going to pull out everything we liked and just see what happens. It could've turned out horrendous; it could've just been a big old mess. I don't think you necessarily have to experience something to write about it. You can see that in music by people like Morrissey. He was holed up in Manchester in his bedroom for like five years with no friends and he managed to create all these beautiful stories.

Bringing local music back to its home town - Media Week

Excerpt:

Despite the city’s rich musical heritage, there are few options for younger music fans. Can newcomer Xfm help to galvanise this audience and the sector? Adam Woods reports.

In April 1986, before alternative music was ever known by that name, Morrissey heard Steve Wright spin Wham!'s I'm Your Man immediately after a news bulletin about the Chernobyl disaster. That's why The Smiths exhorted us to "hang the DJ" that summer, though they were wise enough not to suggest which one.

Morrissey isn't the only Mancunian who doesn't think much of radio. According to some research, 15% of adults in the city simply do not listen to the radio at all.

Xfm 97.7, which two months ago won a 19-way pitch for the new local FM licence, believes it can do something to change that...
