Morrissey Attacks Record Company Over Festival Announcement - contactmusic.com

THE SMITHS' former frontman MORRISSEY is locked in a bitter war of words with his record label SANCTUARY - insisting they announced he'd be performing at next month's (June/05) ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL without asking him.

The 46-year-old singer is furious the music giant mistakenly stated he would be performing at the rock event, because it forced him to disappoint fans by telling them he wouldn't appear at the British extravaganza, because he's too busy preparing his new album...

He fumes, "I have not ever, at any time, agreed to play the Isle of Wight Festival.

"The announcement was made by Sanctuary and it was their error.

"However record companies never take the blame for their mistakes."

Thom Yorke was recently interviewed for a new film entitled "Eat This!" which is a documentary about the ethics of eating meat, and it appears that good old Mozzer was how it all started. When asked what led him to stop eating meat, Thom replied:

"A list of things I guess. First thing was Meat is Murder, The Smiths. The second thing was getting sick all the time every time I ate meat -just getting sick a lot and the third thing was I started going out with this girl and I wanted to impress her so I pretended I'd been vegetarian all along and I immediately felt a lot better, a lot healthier. I was concerned, as many people are, about that you're not going to get all the things you need in your diet, you're going to get sick all the time, but the exact opposite happened to me, so I never looked back, it was never a problem straight off."

I picked up a copy of the anthology to one of my faves band earlier today, At The Drive-In, while in line I was checking out the trax on the cd when to my surprise towards the end of the cd there it is, listed; THIS NIGHT HAS OPENED MY EYES! A classic Smiths' track and one of my personal faves.

"America Is Not The World" has been put on the playlist of a Polish radio station. A popular Polish Radio 3 DJ chose the album cut as a contender for PR3's prestigious weekly chart. However, there is no promo single issued by the Polish distributor of "You Are The Quarry". If you take a while to register, you can vote for the song at the following link.

I e-mailed Red Funnel Ferries after Morrissey made his announcement, asking for a refund since i don't particularly want to go anymore (it was only a day ticket). Initially they said that no refund would be available, but that i could defer my trip to the IOW until another time. I've just received another e-mail telling me that they've received confirmation from the organisers that Morrissey's cancelled, & therefore they're now willing to give me a refund (minus £5 admin fee), which i think is very kind of them. It'd be worth others who've lost out to give this a try.

Also, there's been no official statement as of yet, but Morrissey's name has been taken off the official line-up & Roxy music is now there in the headline position, don't know if this is going to change, but i hope that everyone who's still intending to go has a lovely time, style your hair in a quiff for the day & wear something floral to make up for the disappointment, also take the opportunity to disinfect your liver with alcohol.
