Morrissey plays secret gig at Reading! (+ photo) - NME.com

MORRISSEY has played a secret gig in preparation for his MAIN STAGE slot later tonight (August 28) at the READING leg of the CARLING WEEKEND.

Dressed in a grey tweed suit and a blue New York Dolls T- shirt he performed three songs from new album ’You Are The Quarry’, kicking off with current single ‘First Of The Gang To Die’ followed by ‘The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores’. Ending with ‘I Like You’ he joked that “nobody pogoed, very disappointing”.

Morrissey plays on the Main Stage before The White Stripes tonight and rumours circulating the site suggest he’s planning “huge surprise” and fans should get there from the start. A source to Morrissey said he’d been rehearsing tracks he hadn’t played for 20 years.

According to Pitchfork (link):

...though the first radio single will be Nancy performing "Let Me Kiss You", which originally appeared in Mozophonic Surround on You Are the Quarry. Nancy's rendition has Morrissey relegated to backing vocals. Unfortunately for you B-side hounds, though, a previously planned commercial release for the track has been cancelled.

I've heard from my friend who works at Sanctuary records that Johnny Marr will be appearing at the Blackpool Empress Ballrooms, 4th September. Seems Marr has spent some time this year communicating with Morrissey over a possible live gig.

NME has just announced its festival poll

And poor old Moz only features in the short list for ‘letdown of the summer’. So even if he goes down an absolute storm at Reading and Leeds (we can dream!), he could only make himself slightly less of a letdown! As someone who works in market research, I’d like to severely question the objectivity of this poll!

Hairdresser on Fire writes:

There is an article called 'Remember what Sundays used to be like?' at the BBC News which uses the line from 'Everyday is like Sunday' as a means to discuss changes in Sunday trading laws in the UK.

Starting off "Everyday is like Sunday, Everyday is silent and grey. Even if you've never heard the lyrics of Morrissey's 1988 hit Everyday is Like Sunday, the sentiment may have a haunting familiarity."

Later, it insists "even die-hard Morrissey fans would acknowledge that Sundays are no longer "silent and grey"".

Finally concluding "it's possible to see Morrissey's words as more prophetic than he probably ever imagined. Everyday is, indeed, like Sunday, and Monday, and Tuesday, and Wednesday..."

So according to the BBC, our Moz is now prophetic. Quite a comeback!
