The Statement from Boz regarding the Sanctuary rumor has been on the front page of this site since Jan. 23. Can the NME be that out of it?

English Martyr writes:

This is probably the NME recycling the old rumour but here's the article in full anyway, from the current issue dated 1 Feb 2003

Moz takes Sanctuary in new record deal

Morrissey has signed a record deal with Sanctuary Music - home to Megadeth, Ministry and Black Sabbath!

The music group has been in negotiations with the singer for a year, and according to reports in the French music press, the deal was confirmed at the MIDEM music conference in Cannes last week.

No one at Sanctuary was available to speak to NME at the time of going to press.

Morrissey played his first UK shows for almost three years in 2002 and the Morrissey/Smiths revival has been gaining pace, with The Smiths voted the greatest band in last year's top 50 artists poll, and current favourites include Interpol, Ryan Adams and The Libertines declaring themselves devotees.

Steven Wells is at it again.

From The Guardian Wednesday January 15th (full article)

"And there is actually a Brazilian player by the name of Djalminha who is, apparently, an ENORMOUS Morrissey fan. Now let's think about that for a moment. This is a man who comes from the land of sunshine and samba - but who finds inspiration in the work of a cardigan-wearing, miserabalist pseudo-intellectual veggie-saddo freak who peddles a utterly depressing line in rain-swept self pity, nostalgic bitterness and kneechewingly twee irony. That you can't even dance to. Unless you're a geek. Uh, hello?"

Anonymous-shnonymous writes:

I don't know if anyone reads this music magazine called Stereophile or not, but they had an issue about two months ago featuring an article titled "40 Essential Albums." Anyway, the list contained many clichéd, overrated albums and recordings by artists like the Doors, Joni Mitchell, and Mariah Carey, of all people. In this month's issue, a Smiths fan wrote this letter to the editor:

Shawn writes:

The Bay Area's best band, The Aislers Set, has an incredible new album out soon called "How I Learned To Write Backwards." On it, they lovingly pinch (appropriate) the line "It's the bomb that will bring us together" for the track "The Train #2." And, they even borrow a bit of the melody for good measure. You'll have to listen closely though...it's buried pretty deep in the mix.

Also of interest is the bit in the credits where they joke that "the words and music of Holland, Dozier, Holland, The Smiths, and Leonard Cohen" could be used without permission.

The album will be out Feb. 11, so do yourself a favor and pick it up.

Jeff sends:

In 1969, the New Yorker interviewed the founder member of America's James Dean Club, a 57-year old widow, Mrs. Therese Brandes, who said: "I always tell people that James Dean will be alive until I die." She died in the early 70's. Dean lives on."

-- Steven Morrissey, James Dean is Not Dead

James Dean was the ultimate rebel of the cinema, and Morrissey is the ultimate rebel of popular music. Although Morrissey was not yet born when Dean died in 1955, his life, style and music was greatly inspired by James Dean. Join Sweet and Tender Hooligans and special guest Coulter as they celebrate the life of James Dean and the music of Morrissey and The Smiths.

ashe writes:

By now I’m sure all Moz fans have heard of, and read the reviews of the Andrew Overtoom film, “My Life With Morrissey”. For all those who haven’t seen it rest assured that your chance is coming. Andrew and Market Production Coordinator Adam Villarreal are in the midst of booking a national tour of the film. We have 35 dates tentatively scheduled starting in late May in New York City. We would also like to enlist the help of all you Moz fans with this project.

We are asking anyone who is interested to forward his or her information to [email protected] or [email protected]. The duties will include providing contact information for any local art theatres/venues where you think the movie will be embraced. We would also like help in promoting the film in each respective city. (Flyers will be sent to all those who volunteer)

When the film is screened we will also need the help of the coordinators to help sell the merchandise from the film. (I.E. DVD’s, Soundtracks, T-Shirts, and Movie Posters).

If you're interested in helping in any capacity please drop us a line!

Ciao!
