Ronson received Smiths fans death threats - Digital Spy

Mark Ronson has revealed that he received death threats from Smiths fans after covering one of the band's songs.

Speaking to NME Radio, Ronson said that he didn't mind receiving the online threats because they reminded him of how passionate Smiths fans could be.

"People took umbrage with the fact that I was taking these sacred cows of indie music and doing my own versions of them," he explained.

Ronson added: "If Morrissey and Johnny Marr give their consent I can't be worried about what some 16-year-old in his bedroom thinks.

"But I do like the fact that a 16-year-old cares enough to send me a MySpace death threat. As long as he doesn't follow through on it."

  • Didn't Morrissey and Marr both say they quite liked it. Isn't Morrissey flattered when anyone wants to cover his stuff? He even said he liked Tatu's How Soon Is Now? Although he may just have been talking about the video.

  • Saw some photos of Ronson recently. He looks quite hot in his 2-tone suit and with a bleached quiff.
The song was shit though. Sorry Mark! Try harder next time.

  • Well, didn't he? TERRIBLE cover.
I cringe every time it comes on the stereo at the pub I work at.

  • I thought the Ronson version was perfectly decent.

Stylistically misguided perhaps, with the dated trip-hop sound, but the lyric was placed absolutely at the fore.

To me it was marvellous to hear Mozzer's words on Radio 1, what ever the form.

  • I'm just not so convinced that I believe this.
I mean, I know we are a bit nutty....but really?

  • He deserves death threats whether he's covered a Smiths song or not. A boring and unoriginal tit. But then again don't bother. Save ya ink for someone worth while.
