Smiths' bassist Andy Rourke, has relocated to Brooklyn NY in May 2009 to work on and release new recordings. When not in the studio, Rourke is catching flights to get to gigs around the world getting back in time for his NYC weekly DJ residency "JETLAG".

"JETLAG"
Opening Night June 10th 2009

Every Wednesday night starting in June, Andy Rourke (formerly of the Smiths) and New York DJ, Olé Koretsky, will be manning the decks at Beauty Bar's flagship location in NYC. In recent months, Rourke and Koretsky have been building a relationship with the small Manhattan venue by getting involved in a series of successful nights featuring guests like Allan Dias (Public Image Ltd), DJ Ash, Michael T (Rated X), and Will Sergeant (Echo & the Bunnymen). Party goers can expect a lot more of the same, but, on a weekly basis, and may be able to see other familiar faces like Brazilian Girls' Jesse Murphy, DJ Alexander Technique, Paul Ryder of the Happy Mondays, and Sex Pistol Glen Matlock.

Revered bassist and song craftsman, Rourke has been honing his DJ skills for over six years, evolving considerably since the first North American DJ tour of 2004 with former band mate Mike Joyce. Moving across genres with fluidity, Rourke's sense of rhythm and melody become apparent. It will be no Haçienda, but hints of electro and classic dance cuts will be bleeding through the rock and post-punk oriented DJ sets thanks to Rourkey's Mancunian roots and Ole's background as club DJ and remix producer.

Free admission, an attractive crowd, affordable drinks and weekly drink specials, will round the evening off nicely. The party kicks off Wednesday June 10th. Plan for a hot summer in New York!

  • I think it's really quite useless of David T to allow such trite to be filtered through the SoLow system.

He, along with the other melodramatic demon, snacked on Morrissey and Marr's well-earned fortunes, and now they are being treated as respectable figures?

Do me a favour, blow yer'self up in a retired chippy.

  • Now technically and literally Morrissey and Johnny Marr were The Smiths. And I agree 1000% that Mike Joyce aka Mike Gross and Andy were just lawnmower parts. Because, you got to understand that the true legal meaning of a partnership is not what Judge Weeks followed when he rendered his decision in the famous Smiths court case. But then, much like in America, and this is coming from one of my many attorneys “the legal system in America sucks”, it seems that the British legal system is extremely, unfortunately and illogically the same. Now, I don’t particularly care for Andy Rourke because he wasn’t legally or musically inclined to be included in the legal sense of The Smiths. But I don’t really care for anybody, no. There are some nice, intelligent, talented people who I do like ... and these people, well some of them have the qualities, skills, and correct information. I understand that because of Andy’s alleged heroin problem, well, at the time Mike Joyce aka Mike Gross initiated this bogus lawsuit (which by the way never should have even got an index number). We call it an index number, here in America. But I don’t know if they call it an index number over there. Because I learned that British law (well I learned it now), forbids any countenance to be given to the overall picture. Only one side is ever punished. In order for justice to be seen to be done, someone must be treated unjustly, and the constitutional guarantee of trial by an impartial judge is a humourless joke when we consider that the public have no legal right to conduct an examination of a judge for prejudice.
Law often has nothing to do with what is right or fair -- believe otherwise and a shock awaits you.

So ... now Andy Rourke is about approximately seventeen minutes in my car from me, on Wednesday nights apparently. Being that Andy needed money for other reasons, i.e. his heroin addiction problem, well his alleged heroin addiction problem really, I don’t have the same problem with him , as I do with Mike Joyce aka Mike Gross. If you notice, in any of my messages, after all of these years ... I rarely compared him to that wretched drummer. Hell no. When there was a rumour, and I even said in my message at the time, when there was a rumour that Mike Joyce aka Mike Gross was going to be working (if you call it work), because really, as we are all well aware that thing does not know how to work. Which is why, he whined and cried to his lawyers and even convinced his lawyers (liars) to proceed with his really what I term false allegations. His case whereby he claimed that Morrissey owed him 25% was just the way I see it, the act of a true con, a true manipulator, and well, a liar.

Now, Andy on the other hand needed money. So he listened to his sidekick over there. He might have even ‘believed’ Mike Joyce aka Mike Gross. Because let’s face it, a con can be very very believable and convincing. So, Andy, being as vulnerable as he was ... and who can blame him really because if it is true, that he had a heroin problem, then we should understand why Morrissey, being the humble, kind, and understanding person that he is, we should all understand that Morrissey (because he is a good person), he felt sorry for Andy. And rightfully so. Because somebody with an addiction, any addiction, especially heroin can get messed up. The heroin can make their lives so messed up that they don’t know what they’re doing. And blatantly Morrissey had sympathy for somebody on his staff. Morrissey at the time that he gave thousands and thousands of dollars (well more than that even) to Andy, it was obviously because Morrissey understood the complications and consequences of someone who not only needed heroin ... but they were also being pulled in, swooped in by his sidekick in order to assure that the con himself had a witness. Because you have to understand, in a court of law, you (especially in a civil case), you need at least one witness. Well not really that it is essenti

  • The tune in "Girl Least Likely To" is just a rip-off of The Cookies song "Only to Other People". Morrissey wrote the lyrics in the song "Girl Least Likely To".
So what has Andy Rourke wrote apart from ripping off The Cookies?? Johnny Marr wrote the bass lines in The Smiths.
Andy Rourke is a cruel, selfish, unintelligent, lazy man. Andy Rourke is a alcoholic and has addiction problems!

  • I have it on good authority that Rourke charges £1,000 per DJ set for a maximum of 90 minutes work.

  • Met him the other night and he was very cool. His conversation was not unintelligent and he was happy to discuss some old rough trade questions I had... he was even into them I might say. He was fun and sweet when we asked to take photos with him and he was just all around a friendly and sweet man with us... even joking around laughing as we took photos of flowers in his back pocket at his suggestion... Why does everyone have to have hissy fits on here all the time? It was fun meeting him and everyone had a great time... good music to dance to a drink at the bar with Rourke... not a bad Wednesday... not a huge deal, I am sure that Moz can sort out his legal issues and Rourke really does not seem like a very hateable man. Addiction sucks so many people dry in so many wasy, I just hope he is doing well on that front.

  • I don't agree. I like very much the songs (the musics) he wrote for Morrissey (Yes I am blind; Girl least likely to).
