Smiths Reunion Rumored at Morrissey's Jones Hall Show
By Chris Gray in This Just In

Excerpt:

Strangeways, here they come: Rocks Off has learned that former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr has requested passes for his ex-bandmate Morrissey's sold-out April 11 show at Jones Hall, leading to speculation that the two will perform onstage together for the first time since the influential Manchester band's acrimonious 1987 split.

  • If Johnny Marr was going to perform, he would NOT need to request passes of any kind.

  • I heard Moz just fired Mat Walker and requested Mike Joyce! He's tagging along with Marr to the show!

  • This is just poorly thought out. Why did it even make it on the front page? If Johnny Marr is to perform with Morrissey, why would he need to request passes??? is he going to jump on stage from the front row, grab Jesse's guitar, and start playing.

That would be awesome actually. But not going to happen.

  • So this is how you do it. You call the promoter and ask for a backstage pass. Good to know.

  • One of these days it might turn out to be true and even then some people will swear it was a Johnny Marr lookalike.
However, Marr has been spotted at a couple of Moz shows before now, just in the audience. That'll be what the pass is for, just to get past security in order to catch up with an old friend.
Although in 3 years it'll be 3 decades since they formed the band. It'd be nice if Morrissey and Marr could do one song, together, at one gig. Tell you what guys, Sheffield City Hall has great acoustics. You can even stay at my flat.

  • The Smiths are obviously not reforming, but here is some information that I happen to know IS true and IS happening.

Johnny will be joining Moz on stage at his birthday gig in Manchester on the 22nd May. This is a fact.

Just thought I'd post it here so when it happens I can smugly link back to this page and feel all superior.

I got this news off a friend who was talking to Joe Moss in Manchester and asking if he's going to the Apollo gigs. Mr Moss replied he was going with Johnny because "he's playing". My friend knows Joe Moss pretty well.

Probably only one song but it will be a helluva event.

why do people continue to put out this reunion crap. Morrissey has said repeatidly he has no intentions of reuniting with smiths for any tour. quote, "I have no desire to live in the past. what is the point" -morrissey

these rumors only add false hope to individual minds. please don't feed into this. if you do you will be sorely dissapointed.
PS: I would give anything to see the smith's unite and would pay anything, but i'm tired og getting my hopes up and being let down.

I happened to be looking up some Smith's inspired bands today and found myself on wikipedia. We all know wiki's not terribly reliable but even on there they have a brief history of these rumors and the responses at different times from both Moz and Marr. I'd chalk it up as another rumor. The thing is that we'll never know about it until after the fact and I'm afraid the expectations from such an event would soar so high as to be impossible to satisfy. Who can possibly expect that 2 men -who have been on completely divergent paths for the last 20 years- to join together for a song or so onstage and in doing so magically transport us back in time to The Smiths as we remember them? We're older, they're older...We can't squeeze these 2 extraordinary musicians into a little time capsule, after all. How suffocating! April Fool's Day indeed!

  • Actually... some employees of KROQ in los angeles are reporting the johnny will be attending Coachella. Not sure what the details are, but it has something to do with Franz Fernidad, but it's being said that Moz and Marr will be playing together (and taking the cash)... This will be the first Smiths performance in years. Not sure how true this is, but this is the same person who gave me a super huge heads up about No Doubt and Blink 182 reuniting before anyone.... so the guy is connected, but being my favorite band in the world...i still have my doubts. but he's so sure he made a $1000 bet with me. I hope I AM ASSED OUT $1000 G'S

  • I think it's terrific having Boz touring and the Walker brothers are excellent as they give off a lot of energy during the show. Jesse has proved to be excellent on tour though his songwriting skills haven't yet matched up to Alain's or Boz's. (Give him time!) Alain is still writing songs, he just doesn't tour with the band anymore. In that we certainly couldn't hope for more as thank God he is still writing songs. His are almost always my favorites. So why do we need a reunion at all? I think we've got an excellent set of lads up there! At one show there was the keyboard/multi instrumentalist and he adds great touches here and there but I don't really think he's part of the core band. There's a lot of negative things said about Jesse but IMHO he gives us a lot of energy, he can really shred it up, he's great technically- and that's what you need in a touring band member after all. I love the way he shreds that guitar!

  • Dude, why would Coachella offer Moz and Marr "sick cash" if they were not allowed to promote it? The whole point of a Moz and Marr reunion from a promoter's point of view is to sell massive amounts of tickets in advance, for high prices.

Sounds like a load of crap to me.
