MAGNET Magazine picks the five most overrated and underrated Smiths songs:

The Over/Under: The Smiths

MAGNET senior editor Matthew Fritch once camped out for 13 hours to have Morrissey sign his copy of the “Interesting Drug” single; this was topped only by a more dignified encounter with Johnny Marr. He is closing in on Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce even as he types out the five most overrated and five most underrated Smiths songs.

  • Interesting but this is just more "Love Marr" / "Hate Morrissey" crap. When will they understand that Morrissey/Marr were a good song writing team and that neither was any better than the other?

  • You've got to love how there is a little bio about him as if its supposed to comfirm the value of his credibility and competence. I don't know him, never want to know him. This will not change and I will not be nice. He is a TOOL.

  • pretensious fucking crap in my life. comparing Vicar to the Bryds??? does this motherlicker know what a Rickenbacker sounds like because that was what was the signature sound of the Byrds and there is no trace of that in Vicar. It's more reminiscent of Scotty Moore (Elvis' backing guitarist, just in case that reviewer is reading this). And I'm not sorry to say that You Really Got Me by the Kinks sounds like something a 12 year old would play, it's just backed by a tight rhythm section. There is no comparison with HSIN, how fucking thick, dumb and deaf are you?? That was probably one of the most ill-informed, ignorant and passion-less piles of shit I've ever read on this site. can the author pehaps name some other bands that he thinks might be worthy of his 'praise'??

  • I'd rather not talk about The Smiths anymore. They were a long time ago, they were good, you can now buy the back catalogue for £3.99 each album. Yes, they were relevant, they were great but not that popular in their time as people think they were. And it would be a sad sad sad thing to see them reform. I hope they never will.

This is almost as absurd as asking Paul McCarthy why can't he make another album like Rubber Soul.
