In the Sunday Mail(Scottish Tabloid) on 8 Feb, resident music journo Billy Sloan included this snippet in his column:

"Bumped into Johnny Marr in Glasgow last week. He revealed The Smiths have been offered big bucks for a reunion...and he's not ruling it out. He said:"I met up with Morrissey and it was nice." The Smiths at T in the Park?* How great does that sound?"

Read into that what you will.
*T in the Park is an annual outdoor music festival in Scotland.

  • Marr does not need morrissey and morrissey does not need marr. I doubt there will ever be a smiths reunion. If there is u better plan on spending $300+ a ticket. I'd rather see morrissey for $50 a ticket!

  • as there is no way back for Joyce and Rourke but i reckon that before Moz finishes with music he will do something again with Johnny Marr. Whether that be a tour ( they would need to hire bloody massive stadia), a one off gig (they would need the Maracana!) or whether they would start writing together again i'm not sure BUT I know its gonna happen someday....
I get the feeling with the sudden increase in media exposure and the tone of Years of Refusal that Moz is putting the tin hat on some aspects of his life. He will maybe take some time off before returning with a definitively perfect sign off double album (Vauxhall meets The Queen is Dead meets Strangeways meets Everyday is like Sunday on Maudlin Street)including tracks written with both Johnny Marr and Alain Whyte and produced by Stephen Street.
Hey i like the way this is progressing.
Moz will then finally break down the resistance of the target of ' The Never played Symphonies' and will wander off into the sunset years his heart truly at peace.....

  • ...after all his interviews saying he never will, I will have lost quite a bit of respect for him.

    for example:
from the Rip It Up, February/March 2009 article:

"...But it also begs the question - especially in light of 2009 being the 25th anniversary of the Smiths' debut album - whether there's any chance of a reunion, even as a once off?

"Why? What's the point? Just to satisfy other people's nostalgia? That's all it is - nostalgia! No, I can't see any reason for it; I do not see the point," he barks. "But if anybody does, I'd be delighted to hear it..." ...the chance to finish unfinished business...

"I don't think there is any [unfinished business]. I really don't," counters Morrissey. "Really, I'm okay by myself which, coincidentally, is the final track on Years of Refusal," he laughs. "And I don't say that to have a dig at anybody else. So, no, I do not see the point of it, it eludes me."..."

I could see him performing with Marr, and if he gets much $$$ for it, good for him, but to perform under the name of "The Smiths", no.

  • Our Man Mozzer has no qualms about playing Smiths numbers these days and since we all agree that he's the real magic element in everything. I don't think it would be much more of a thrill to have Johnny and The Drummer join in.

Morrissey is a living, breathing musical entity.
The Smiths died and left a beautiful corpse.

  • this story was mentioned on bbc 3 in the 60 second entertainment news, "Morrissey rules out a smiths reunion" (or something along those lines)- quoted him from the bbc interview with show footage playing in the background. Strange seeing a moz story slotted in behind news of a limpbizkit reunion!

  • Yes, the smiths would get more cash upfront in terms of fee's than morrissey alone...but morrissey is embarking on a massive world tour anyhow...alone...he won't have to split the cash, have the hassles etc etc etc...just pay the boys/crew and have a relatively nice time.
It's not as if the smiths would work in massive arena's anyhow...have you seen radiohead/U2 et all perform these massive shows?
    Awful!
You may as well watch tv.
He doesn't need to reform the smiths.
