It has yet to be decided which Universal label will release the album in the US. 'Years of Refusal' has 12 tracks and is produced by Jerry Finn. Prior to this, Sony-BMG will issue a remastered version of 'Southpaw Grammar' in July. This album, first released in 1995, will include three previously unreleased tracks, and new artwork. In addition to the Cork Festival on June 26th, Morrissey will play a concert at Kilmainham Hospital in Dublin on June 28th.

Why people are bringing up "Kit" I have no idea...especially seeing as it was recorded during the Maladjusted sessions and is owned Mercury...NOT Sony...who is releasing the new Southpaw remaster.

I'm 100% SURE Southpaw will only include the B-sides we already have. There are no other finished songs from that era, otherwise we'd have them one way or another. That just seems realistic. I still look forward to it as I love this album...I hope they insert the extra songs into the actual album to give it a different running feel, rather than stick them at the end as bonus tracks.

Excellent title.... (Score:0)
Much better title than both "Quarry" or "Ringleader".
And while I'm not expecting the record to top or even equal "Vauxhall", it would be nice, after so many years, to have a really good Morrissey album, perhaps the equal of "Your Arsenal". It's been a long time since his last great album - 14 years to be exact. So here's hoping.
"Southpaw" is poor though, a strange reissue choice when "Bona", "Arsenal" and "Vauxhall" would all better serve to remind people of Morrissey's pedigree.
As to the new songs, I think "Skull" is a good upbeat piece of indie-pop, maybe not as strong a single as "First of the Gang", but certainly in the vein of something like "Glamorous Glue".
"Goodybe, Farewell" - LOVE the trumpet, hope it remains on the record. Another good song.
"Paris" - pretty but underdeveloped and I think the lyrics are cliche for Morrissey. Still, some journalists like Simon Goddard have singled it out for praise as one of his "languid ballads".
"Mama" - great stuff. Pounding drums, some nice effects, dark lyrics. Another very good song.
"Children in Pieces" - OK, but sounds like it should have been on ROTT. Good idea to dispatch it now - the new album should be completely fresh.
Now, I panned Quarry when it came out and I still think that is a largely average album. ROTT I liked a bit better, but still thought it average overall. But I have high hopes for "Years of Refusal". Let's hope they come true.

For me it is a poor album overall and whilst it does have some points of interest it's no Vauxhall.
Teachers - fantastic orchaestration - but waaaaaaaaaaytoo long.
Reader Meet Author - awful singing on this track.
The Operation - Drum solo - errrrr. No No No No No.
Dagenham Dave - Worst morrissey single by some distance.
I could go on.
Overall an attempt to do somethind different but proof that cranking up the geeeeeetars to 11 does not make for good songs. I also think that lyrically Moz sells himself short.
Consider that he/they/someone left off Nobody Loves Us - a song that pisses over anything else on the record in terms of melody, lyrics etc. I find that baffling.
Reminds me of the Elvis Costello quote which i used to say was total bollocks - "Great song titles, but where are the songs"
In the age of Deluxe Reissues - the addition of 3 tracks is something of a piss take. Yet again I feel short changed. The handling of Morrissey's back catalogue is nothing but shameful.
Why not release all the SG sessions, demos, perhaps even a selection of live tracks/ a whole gig from that period, a tie in DVD - no imagination whatsoever.
And what's with this remastering - surely there comes a point where this "new" technology kicked in so remastering is unncessary ? 1995 not too long ago. That said, i'm happy to be shouted down on this point but to my ears i've found DM matters little unless were talking about something recorded/mastered in a very ancient way.
I fear we may just get the B-Sides and 1 other track.

I predict that it will be yet another radio rock slog. I don't see Morrissey becoming interested in allowing the music to trump his vocal melodies at this point in his career. It's all about him.
Southpaw Grammar, imo, was simply shit. It was a lazy album meant to fulfill a contractual agreement. He was keeping his seat at the table. The album still symbolizes Morrissey's sudden slide into the bizarre world of overproduced, top 40 Karaoke Music. He has yet to recover artistically.
Finally, Morrissey has become like the much maligned Hollywood screen writers who write scripts based on movie titles. He seems to use the same formula, and well, it's starting to sound formulaic. No, wait, it's been sounding formulaic for 14 years.
So, in a sense, he has finally fulfilled Elvis Costello's old complaint about him.
Like a bad habit, I will investigate the release, but my expectations are incredibly low.
