Middle school trio rocks out on debut CD single - East Brunswick Sentinel

Excerpt:

IMOZ, a group of sixth-graders from the Hammarskjöld Middle School, is already making a name for itself among their peers and music fans who have downloaded their song. The young trio has not only released a CD single, but an accompanying video for their song "Don't Listen to Mom," written by band member Morrissey Balsamides and his father, Manny

...The song, described as combining the power and pop punk of Blink 182 and Green Day, can be downloaded from several Web sites, including iTunes and Amazon. The video can be found on YouTube and I-MOZ also has its own MySpace page. The group also has its own Web site, www.imozmusic.com.

...Manny said the band got its name from Morrissey's nickname, "Moz," but they decided to modernize it by attaching the I at the beginning.

  • I think this is more interesting than anything Blink 182 or Green Day have ever recorded. It's green and honest. Innocent and messy. Yep. I like it!

  • ...if you consider this Morrissey news.

  • That is pretty awful. It is just someone else trying to cash in on a Morrissey tie-in. Shameless, I mean really.

Would anyone like to check out the new MozCrocs I am developing? They are going to be huge.....

  • 200+ comments from bitter fans dissing these SIXTH graders...

  • I should preface this comment with saying I love Moz-solo and the editor's judgement is usually impeccable-

However just wondering why this news item is here. It appears to have absolutely nothing to do with Morrissey the music artist. So the child is named Morrissey. So what? I was expecting some lame quote in the article about the child being named after our Mozza, and wanting to aspire to his greatness, or something. But there's not even that. Maybe he wasn't even named after Morrissey at all?

The band itself, it says, are named after the child, not the music artist Morrissey.

  • I have seen some shit in my life, including Blink 182, but this is up there with the most lame crap ever produced. This site is becoming embarrassing with some of the tenuous links posted.

FFS they don't even know how to hold a guitar, let alone know how to play it. The lead singer has all the charisma of a leg of pork.

Yes they're young but so what.
I'd rather they were mugging little old ladies than continue on this career path.

    Bring back Hanson. They rocked.

  • i saw this guy on TV and his last name was Morrissey, but he spelled it Morrisey. he wasn't in a band or anything, and he was like 70, but that's news...right?

  • Gotta love how 80's the video is, though.

He will later grow up to appreciate his mum and write "Mama Lay Softly on the Riverbed" (it is an appreciative song, actually).

So Merk, any news on the US release of the new single by the real Moz?

  • Don't tell me that Morrissey Balsamides' parents named him after Morrissey, talk about insane, unhinged, dedicated, but least rational fans!

  • I think it's good. It's shit, but it's good.

The most important thing is that they've namechecked Moz and therefore secured his friendship and approval.

  • I know they are kids and all but they are really lousy. Incredibly pretentious as well.
I think the guys need to stop the attention grab and get back to the school books and head to a different line of work.
Sorry but they are crummy "musicians".

  • AH so some do not like my son's video and music..

yes he was named after morrissey...and as a bonus, his mother is english...so english blood runs through his body..

We hate it when our friends become successful..

Instead of embrasing a child, you would rather send him to the moores...
