There is a live vote on MSNBC going on:

"Who do you think should be an "American Idol" mentor?" and who should be on the list as a possibility...that's right, Morrissey...Couldn't even imagine the possibilities if this were to come through.

Mentors we’d like to see on ‘American Idol’ - MSNBC

  • Good luck. By the way... Dolly Parton 26% thus far. :)

Don't watch that show... for the love of Morrissey.

  • Moz has publicly thrown up his gut about that show (not literally, of course!). If he did do it, the first thing he would probably tell the contestant is "be yourself, don't listen to those cronies" and then tell them a thing or two about negotiating contracts so they don't get a third ripped from them by the industry. And then they'd get kicked off right away. However, they'd retain their integrity and Moz fans may take a listen to them!

  • What "integrity" could they keep? They're karaoke singers not songwriters/musicians...

Stay away no matter what Morrissey, these people cannot be saved!...But I know you will.

  • He would hurt more feelings than Simon Cowell for sure. Couldn't see him doing it for the world. If he did I would shave my head and vote Republican and eat laxitives all day.

  • Morrissey has 'form' in these matters!

Here he is, from British T.V of yesteryear, with George Michael and Tony Blackburn, discussing Everything But The Girl:

I don't think he'd do it because I doubt he could stand to be in physical proximity to Simon Cowell. But who knows, maybe they'd get on! Two people who speak their mind.....in different ways.

Also, it would boost his profile to a level that I'm no longer sure he craves.

Finally, as other posters have noted, it's not a talent show, just a trawl of the karaoke bars for the latest Nuclear Whitney Houston voice.

    Ciao!

  • 'Once upon a Time in New York' is a documentary about some significant new waves of music, including punk via Blondie, Television, Patti Smith, probably the New York Dolls, that sprung up in the city in the grimey 1970s. It's on BBC2 TV tonight for an hour at 11.30pm (right about now...)

  • Moz wouldn't last 5 minutes on that show.

First off, the crowd would be filled with greasers booing every contestant except for the 'rocker', 'emo', or that one person that's 'different' from the rest. If none of the above exists, the audience track will be replaced by the pre-recorded garbage they pull out every now and then.

For the sake of argument, let's just say one of the contestants happens to be wearing their favorite Smiths shirt she bought at Hot Topic when the news was announced.

(Moz takes the stage, camera zooms on afformentioned emo chick whose mascara drips down her pale cheeks)

Moz (biting his lower cheeks/lip combination quickly throws his hand up at the crowd in appreciation): "Hullo"

The voices of the other judges cannot be heard as the cheering gets stronger with each second that passes by.

Camera zooms on Simon, with his tradmark smirk, looks away from the camera.

Finally, 'Scowell' waves his arms in the air in frustration:

Simon: "Allright, allright... (crowd applause and 'MoRrIsSeY' chant gets louder) ALLRIGHT ALREADY!!"

Crowd noise lowers down to a quiet laughter. Morrissey awkwardly looks away in embarrassment for the douche.

Simon: "Let me get something off my chest: I've never really cared for your music"

'Oh's' and 'aahs' emanate from the crowd though the majority boos and hisses in anger

Morrissey: (pauses, strategically awaits more venom from the slimy cunt) "Erm...well..." Looks at the other judges and says with a laugh - "I've never really cared for you".

Crowd applauses mixed in with some boos from the few people that never heard of Morrissey, whose back can be seen as he exits the stage.
