Dickie Felton writes:
BOOK CALL FOR MORRISSEY FANS

An English journalist is putting together a new book examining the unique relationship between Morrissey and his most obsessive fans.

"Meeting Morrissey" will be released late 2008/early 2009 and will include a collection of fan stories and photos of encounters with the great man...

Celebrity Morrissey fans from the world of TV and music are set to contribute but "Meeting Morrissey" is essentially about real fans: People who travel 4,000 miles for a concert, people who queue all night to be first in line, people who live for the music and Morrissey...

Author Dickie Felton, and self-confessed Morrissey nut, said: "The book will be unique in that Morrissey fan-culture is dramatically under reported.

"I'm not aware of any other singer who attracts the same sort of fan adoration as Morrissey.

"If you are lucky enough to get to the front of one of his concerts you will witness scenes of total fan-demonium. It's like a mad clamber stage-wards to touch the messiah...

"I've been laughed at for travelling thousands of miles for a Morrissey concert, or attending five shows in a week - but to me it's perfectly normal behaviour!

"I want fans who have meet Morrissey to get in touch and be part of the book. I've already been in contact with a few who have great stories and photos of chance meetings with Morrissey on sidewalks, in bars or whereever.

"The conversations between fan and the Moz can be hilarious, others are quite moving."

"Meeting Morrissey" will be full colour and promises to lift the lid on the most obsessive fans in music.

Fans interested in being included should get in touch with their stories and photos to [email protected]

"I'm not aware of any other singer who attracts the same sort of fan adoration as Morrissey."

I disagree with that. Just meet any Prince fan. I went 2 his concert and I couldn't even hear myself think. Now those fans are crazy.

  • that no one will admit is that everyone who posts regularly on Solo, and everyone in line at a gig, and everyone in the front row, is broken. They are there because something is lacking in their lives. Some are going bankrupt to be there. That's not healthy.

I don't think Moz knows this.

  • Yo! Dickie!

Mmmmn…...interesting idea……but I have 'some concerns'....I’m not an obsessive fan: Fan is derivative of ‘Fanatic’. I consider my ‘interest’ in Morrissey to be quite rational and Normal: Although there is, of course, no such thing in life as Normal!
Travelling 4000 miles for a show indicates:
Self - made millionaire, generous trust-fund or serious credit card abuse. Nothing more. There's nowt wrong with being Poor, hidden by rags, stalwart lover, double bed as that old medley goes. Lots of people who are ‘deeply interested’ in Morrissey appear very Normal on the surface. You wouldn’t notice them in the average supermarket. Again - There is no such thing in Life, etc.
Queuing all night to be first in line is self-defeating behaviour, because: There’s always someone, somewhere…..elbow, knee & steel-capped toes - who barges past and laughs when you fall…..

"I'm not aware of any other singer who attracts the same sort of fan adoration as Morrissey.”
Clearly, not a Leonard Cohen admirer!
    http://www.leonardcohenfiles.com/

“It's like a mad clamber stage-wards to touch the messiah…”
With respect: No -it's not. I live for Life, not for Music or Morrissey. I don’t worship False Idols: and I don’t need any ‘messiah’. I’ve already gone one, which is more than enough to deal with, thank you very much! However, there’s been many a time the old ‘Rubber Ring’ has got me to shore, for which I’m appropriately, but not unreasonably: Grateful.

Morrissey is the ‘Ringleader’ but he’s wised up to the changing nature of the Performer/Audience stage/mosh pit dynamic: “The audience doesn't realize this but, I, in effect, come to see them, and my temperament depends on how they react and even how they look…..”
    http://true-to-you.net/questions_with_answers_from _morrissey

In other words, as Sly Stone famously declaimed: “Everybody Is A Star!” Well: I certainly am. [cue boos, gurgling circle, etc] Although it does sometimes get very funny when he's has a strop:
'WHIWOFBS' is actually a song about his love/hate audience, and vice versa: Not the Press. IMHO. On a bad night, of course. [The Sage, infamously]
    http://tour.morrissey-solo.com/article.pl?sid=06/0 4/29/0926258
And The Palladium, first night! Very amusing. He's not a 'dancing bear' folks! He has bad hair days/nights just like me and you. He's human. Leave Morrissey alone! And buy his new single!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCZSDxA8_JA

“attending five shows in a week - but to me it's perfectly normal behaviour!”
Of course it’s Normal! I’m planning to do exactly this in a couple of weeks, unless my health prevents me (again!) from travelling.

For the third and final frickin time!
THERE IS NO SUCH THING IN LIFE AS NORMAL!

I doubt that the real cognoscenti of his Audience who have actually enjoyed ‘social intercourse’ with Morrissey (how very dare you!), would ever be so vulgar and meretricious as to publicly flaunt the fact(s). And, perhaps: Morrissey isn't even aware of the devious subtlety of some of his most....'passionate admirers' who have bumped into him, exchanged pleasantries and moved swiftly on, having fitted another piece of the jigsaw together, without him even realising it.

Having said all that, I look forward to the book. Could be ‘amusing’. Especially if it’s true that Morrissey is ‘ashamed of 90%’ of his fans’.

Actually: I’m in negotiations to do a T.V special with Pamela Stephenson called ‘Shrink Rap with Morrissey’s Audience’. Must get that ‘lift-pitch’ correct for C4!

  • very platonic, so there isn't very much to tell
    hoho :))

    Buuut, pick your choice:

    1) When I saw him for the first time in June, I thought a God was entering the stage - but reality immediately stroke me: the "God" was sick with laringitis and soon left the stage!

    2) The second time I met him in a sizzling July month. He was very romantic, very personable, dreessed in a tuxedo - on stage, singing Please, Please, Please Let Me Get Who I Want. And If it weren't for those 13 roles of people between us... I'm sure we would have had a good time, haha :))

    3) I saw him at the Orpheum - which felt more like seeing him in the Hades (you know, that hole the ancient Greeks believed we went to after we died) - but if it weren''t for that...oh, what a compelling story! heheh :}

  • I hate that definition of real fans. Though he doesn't call us fans, let's use the term for a while here. I'm one. And I have never, nor will I ever be able to, travelled to see him. Spare me the "save your pennies" bull, please.
Morrissey will never know all of his "real fans", there's a lot of us who can only count on Internet for an "approach".

  • I'm sorry but that's simply rubish. Real fans? You don't have to travel 4,000 miles for a concert, queue all night to be first in line, etc, to be a 'real fan'. I consider myself a 'real fan' since 1986, because I love his music, I buy all his records, I go to his concerts everytime I can and I am interested in what he does. As simple as that!! In my opinion, you don't have to do crazy or disproportioned things to be a 'real fan'.

  • There is no book, there isn't going to be any book. There's going to be nothing about nothing. Morrissey despises 90% of the people on this "webshite". He is probably the only genius, artist, most brilliant singer who attracts fans who mock him and taunt him when he is ill. He is also the only most compassionate star whereby his "fans" dwell upon his greatest hits and proceeds to rip them to shreds, art sleeves which they analyze like parts of a frog under a microscope, and his cancellations which when he does cancel are completely justly done. This website gets quoted in the NY Times insinuating that the "fans" Morrissey attracts are the saddest, sickest backstabbers in the whole music business - maybe. Morrissey must be soooo star struck with his filler characters; "fans", his convicted felon "fans", his multi personalitied schizo "fans" who invent multiple names and genders to converse with, fight with, and praise themselves to. Oh brother what a cast of characters Morrissey possesses as his audience. Yes, yes, even Morrissey's own people are embarrassed to speak of his "fan base".
You are beneath me. And, and what I know about Morrissey in all of my conversations, Haaa-nobody, nobody -- knows. And nobody shall ever know -- Nev-ahhh.
Like I said there's no nothing about nothing. I should make one exception, at least Julia is a real supporter and she, she (what a surprise) does not even get a mention on this thread, at least Julia isn't a two faced, lying, multi personalitied mental ward escapee. At least she has integrity and to top it all off is not a criminal. I hope you have many many wonderful lovely encounters Julia at the upcoming shows in the UK. You deserve them even though I know I said you only speak in one to two word ways. I am sorry I said that. You just must be really really exhausted like Morrissey as it is hard, very hard to travel as much as the two of you have to. Julia- "There speaks a true supporter".

  • that has been guided by morrissey.

there are things in life that i do find dificult to manage. Morrissey in his own reflection, really helped me understand myself and what it meant in life to cope with pain and sadness.

I really obsessed over him for so many years. Even went out and got jobs at venues to meet him backstage. Planned successful stage invasions. Countless number of tickets. Countless number of memorabilia.

I still have bouts of sadness from time to time. So yeah we are all broken to some degree. If you can admit that to yourself then can the healing begin.

  • First of all, get out of here, get off of this site or better still, just kill yourselves already. You are a loser, die. And, and leave, leave Peter’s children-- out of this. Who the fuck do you think you are, making fun of children, or anybody for that matter, with epilepsy. Even if Peter’s children or child have/has epilepsy what the hell is it your business -- who the hell do you think you are mocking children who may or may not possess a horrible awful sickness. I myself worked for the Epilepsy Foundation and let me tell you something, you mechanical monster - Epilepsy is a severe, harsh and sad sad disease, whereby you have absolutely, absolutely, No right, no business to make fun of or make light of for that matter.. have you ever experienced watching a child or an adult experience a grand mal seizure or any other type of seizure. That’s what I thought.
I don’t know if Peter’s children really have epilepsy, I don’t sit and prod into other nice lovely people’s personal business, however you have now made it my business as I worked for the Epilepsy Foundation and I am not, and I am not going to sit here like a stuffed animal and say nothing while you, you people possess the sensitivity levels of satanic alligators. Leave Peter alone, and more importantly leave his children out of this website. Children do not belong on this website. Go vent your wrath on a Spice Girls or K-Federline site.
You are a psychological abuser and blatantly feel that Peter has some conspiracy against you -- that is clearly your Own self delusional paranoid schizophrenic tendencies which, which are in essential demand of anti-psychotic meds-and this I cannot stress, I cannot stress more profoundly.
Go elicit your germs elsewhere, go chop an ax, better yet just kill yourself, yourselves already and end it all-at least you’ll be out of your misery. you excel in nothing-nothing but causing grief and anguish on here.
Your hatred and jealousy of Peter and Peter’s life have become a dangerous obsession. May God help you ... on your way to hell.

I sometimes think God in creating man, somewhat over estimated his ability - Oscar Wilde.
