Currently on the website of The Lowry Centre in Manchester, there is a poll running seeking public election of favourite people from Northern England.
- To involve people in the very popular The Myth of the North exhibition – a celebration of all things Northern currently on display until November 4th – The Lowry has been asking gallery visitors to nominate their favourite people, places and things from across the North of England.
Hundreds of people have already joined in – and the most popular choices are being used to create a special Northern ‘Hall of Fame’ within the exhibition.
But because not everyone can get to see The Myth of The North and vote in person, The Lowry has created this online poll where you can vote for all your favourite things Northern.
To help make it easier, we have already created shortlists based on the visitor suggestions we have received so far.
To vote simply click on the categories featured - Female Personality - Male Personality - Fictional Character - TV Comedy - TV Drama - Rock Band - Landmarks - Food and Drink - , click in the circle next to the short-listed person, place or thing that you feel best sums up the North and click Vote. -

When I corrected him by saying the word was actually election he flopped onto his couch and reclined, demanding that I apply a cool compress to his fevered brow and spoonfeed him peach yoghurt.

I might just cast one or two more votes for Pulp, seeing as they are the best thing to come out of Sheffield since stainless steel and Michael Palin. But, pride in Yorkshire takes second place to my love of Morrissey.
