Just picked up my daily newspaper this morning and was horrified to read and article in the Celebrities gossip column about Morrissey. This is the article word for word:

"Cover it up Mozza"

Having recently seen their hero turn 48, embarrassed fans of morose warbler Morrissey are now calling on him to stop stripping down to the waist during shows.

While Mozza has traditionally torn off his shirt during concerts, hundreds of fans are now registering their opposition on websites, claiming the singer is "too long in the tooth" to be appearing half-naked on stage.

"At the end of the day, Morrissey isn't the slim young thing he once was and actually has a middle-age spread these days," confesses our Mozza source. "A large percentage of fans now actually feel rather embarrassed when he insists on stripping off as it's not a particularly pretty sight." Time to hit the gym Morrissey?

  • where online? i've only heard it from one or two people here. definitely no movement. davidt...did you check if the story actually appeared in the paper and it's not simply a case of troll sending in fake story.

    If it did appear in the paper, i hope Morrissey sues...since it's not true...there are no 100 fans starting a movement to get morrissey to stop taking off his shirt. they wouldn't be fans, just simply assholes.

    Who are these people and on what site are they 'registering their opposition'? They are obviously not true fans. I dont see anyone turning away when Morrissey takes it off. Quite the contrary.

    Surely there are other half-naked people to be more concerned about.

  • Swallowneck simply loves to see Mozzer stripped to the waist at a live show and that pleasure is not steeped in anything sexual either...

    However, he takes great pleasure in seeing sweaty young men in the audience with their shirts removed and has (on one occasion) actually been accused of frotaging a male fan at a gig in Chester.

    I will continue to simply dispute this accusation!

    I posted on the poll-in-question thread about how it was sickening to see Morrissey under attack once again on this vile site.
    I objected to this option: "Yes - he needs to get some dignity", which was clearly designed to cause embarrassment to Morrissey.
    David Tseng made one of his pompous posts, first accusing me of being one of his former adversaries, and then denouncing me for objecting to the poll in question (or, more specifically, that spiteful option).
    Morrissey despises David Tseng, and his site, for just such things, and now we see that, once again, the abuse directed at Morrissey on this SoLow site has made the National Press.
    I urge all true admirers of Morrissey to relocate to www.mozwa.com , and leave this depressing site to wallow in it's own putrid effluence.

  • I personally LOVE it when Moz strips off his shirt. The crowd goes crazy & I think he looks GREAT. The only thing I'm pissed about is...I can never seem to catch that damn shirt! F*ck those non believers! Maybe he should take off his trousers too!

  • UK news papers sometimes pick up little bits and turn them into "articles". They blow it out of proportion and make it look like a "news" piece.
    I bet this sad journo has come across the poll on this website and thought that it would make an amusing piece of gossip.

  • I love it when Morrissey takes off his shirt. I think he looks very good for his age.
    He is only trying to give his fans a piece of him.

    One thing I would say that is bad about it is the fighting that goes on between fans for the shirt.

    He is better still than that old video of Bruce Springsteen in the 80s turning his back so the "eager" watchers could appreciate his born in the USA cute arse...If you don't like Moz stripping, just because he is 48, then try MTV, or Esquire, or those other men magazines, or women magazines - whatever you prefer. Just don't ask Moz to cease to strip, because that makes me smile - and I, we have the right to! :)

    Let the Mick Jagger and Springteen fans enjoy their idols asses and let us enjoy Morrissey's nude torso. Long may it last!

    I think Moz has a cute ass also, by the way, so I'll have a piece of that to go... Reckless perverts, unite and take over! We really do no harm :)

  • This this bullshit! If these "call" fasn feel embarrassed then they are just simply NOT fans. That is Morrissey and whatever he does on stage... that's why we love him right? I just love when I see him doig it! VIVA MORRISSEY! I hate these commends against MORRISSEY! This is a Morriseey-fan-website. Or am I in the wrong place? I am always afraid to come to this place. I always find nothing but critics towards Morrissey....Please people if you dont like Moz just go away! and leave us (true fans) alone.

  • I don't know if anyone was listening last night, but Stuart Maconie and Mark Radcliff had this as one of their items on the feature "Stuff and Nonsense"! They revealed that it was true that the story had appeared in The Express and then debated whether or not Morrissey should 'keep it on'. Stuart said how he'd seen him five times on the last tour and the sight of Morrissey with no shirt on made his heart "beat a little bit faster!"

  • Of Moz was at the end of the relatively recent Live DVD when he turned to run off stage. Jesus, he looked like my Dad. He clearly doesn't work out at all. He gets by when the lights create shadows, but if you catch him away from them, it's ghastly.

    So much for the sensible vegetarian lifestyle.

Thank God he still puts out LPs and tours, he could be a Kate Bush type and never tour as well as only put out a record every 12 years if that, then there would be nothing for these idiots to discuss.
