This week on Sirius satellite radio, channel 22, Morrissey will be the featured artist, celebrating his tour and birthday.

I heard the announcement this past weekend.

On Richard Blade's show at 12pm Eastern Time/9am pacific and again repeated at 12am/9pm.

Channel 22 "First Wave" is a good station if you like what KROQ was know for in the 80's. Even some of the old dj's host the channel; Richard Blade, Freddy Snakeskin and the Swedish Egil.

The description from Sirius ch. 22:
"Hear the first wave of alternative music from the era that defined alternative. If you ever wore a skinny tie, had spiked hair, or pogoed to the beat, First Wave is for you. Don’t miss Fred Schneider of the B-52’s Party Out Of Bounds every Friday Night.

What we play: The Clash, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, Echo & the Bunnymen, Morrissey, New Order, The Police, Psychedelic Furs, The Ramones, REM, The Smiths, Squeeze, Tears For Fears, U2 and many more."

A part of "Girlfriend in a Coma" is even used a "promo" for the channel, "...it's really serious (Sirius)..."

  • Take pity on Swallowneck's futile plight and record this station for him on any spare cassettes that are cluttering up your squalid bedsits... Include details of your gender (male, obviously) and your address and he may come 'round there one night and take you with both of his huge, coarse hands and administer some "harsh relief" as a thank you.

If today is an example, each day this week there will be a small section of an interview. It wasn't stated when this interview took place.

Here is a transcript I made of it.

Richard Blade: How do you feel about your fans?

Moz: Well I find it very moving because I know its not just silly teen hysteria. I know it’s more than that. I know people take me very seriously and people who listen to me take me very seriously. And if it was just simple teen hysteria I wouldn’t really be interested. So, ah, it means a lot.

Blade: There’s certain kinds of groups that the kids will scream and run after but you know it’s because of the fashion, the haircut, the face or whatever and there is other groups they really care for because of the music and they lyrics are offering something, it seem definitely you are in the foremost of the latter category?

Moz: Yes, well I wouldn’t want to be in any other category really, even if it meant I’d be enormously successful I’d make millions of pounds I wouldn’t want to be in any other category. If people don’t really accept me as I want them to, then I’ll just go and sell ice cream.

Blade: Was there a Morrissey for you growing up that you would’ve…

Moz: eh, no not really eh there was certain people who, ah, I got very excited about but no not really.

Blade: I mean if James Dean had been around,

    Moz: ehhh, yes

Blade: if he hadn’t died in that Porsche, would you have chased after him do you think?

Moz: Well, ah , I may have done yes, I may have considered it yes (laughter) That’s all I can say.
