This is not news per se but after the chicago show i saw my friend talking to kristeen young and promptly introduced myself... we started talking about the song Sweetie-pie... (i love that song) I told her that i thought her vocals are amazing on that track and asked who came up with her part on that song (moz or visconti or farrel or ...). She told me that she had, "that was 100% me." Then i said that the production on the song was AMAZING and she introduced me to Tony Visconti (who was standing right next to her).

I spoke to Visconti about the song and he said, "I think Michael has FINALLY come to terms with it." He said that the song was meant to be on RotT but morrissey felt the song sounded "too sweet." (informing visconti via email). so morrissey did his homework and reworked it (not sure how, that is what visconti said), had tony rework it, etc. finally morrissey pulled kristeen into it as well, visconti continued to work with it and finally morrissey was happy with it in all its afterlife glory...

visconti was incredibly enthused to talk about this..

finally i asked him if he indeed was producing morrissey's NEXT album, to which he replied with a smile, "he asked me to! i accepted! but he will not stop touring and get in the damn studio so i dunno!"

anyway, both tony visconti and kristeen young were super friendly and now i owe miss young a bag of sour patch kids...

  • I loved Visconti's production of ROTT. I always think how much better TATQ would have been if he'd done that too. Anyway, here's hoping the next record has songs as strong as Quarry and production as strong as ROTT, then it'll be a damn near perfect album :D

  • The mighty Swallowneck recently declared that he hopes that Sweetie-Pie is a springboard to a "new and exciting musical direction" for the next Moz album as he is through with "joyless white boy indie shit"!

I think he's trying to worm his way into Mikey Farrell's bed personally...

  • Reading that was awesome and it made my day. So I guess Mr. V was with Mr. M recording recently, as was mentioned by Mr. Boorer?

  • This is really bad news. I would be happier if Barry Manilow was producing the next record. Visconti's best days are far behind him.

  • Anyone else think that Visconti is WAY TOO old for Kristeen?! I mean, really!

  • just been listening to hatfull of hollow, my god, its one of the very best albums i've heard, used to listen to the smiths new songs via the john peel show late night radio 1, its great to see the boys have done well for themselves, i read on these pages people moking mozz/marr, well you ungrateful gits, they are among the very best songwriting partnership this small island has ever produced, and i thank them both for some life changing music/lyrics, x the smiths forever x

  • Nice info on the song. They seem to be inside a church. Does anyone know why? Sweetie Pie seems to evoke a church atmosphere, so I don't know if the photo background has anything to do with it.

I'm surprised, though, that Morrissey did not want to include "Sweetie Pie" because it was "too sweet": is it any sweeter than "Dear God Please Help Me"?

Morrissey, face it: you are irrepably sweet; maybe too much for yourself, but never for us, so keep sharing those pies with us. We can't ever have enough. ;)

  • What will Moz think once he finds out that Kristeen Young and Tony Visconti spoke to and posed for people without making these people promise their words and image would not find their way to the SoLow site?

  • This is such a good read that I will now listen to the song.

    My ass itches?

  • so he named it "sweetie pie".

and then made Visconti change it so it sounded less sweet.

    makes complete sense.

  • ...Why do you owe her Sour Patch Kids? I met her that night finally, in person, after my 800 emails with her for the interview I did. She is so TINY! Like a twig. And so sweet and shy. Not like her stage-self AT ALL. I gave her a bag of them that night, probably right before you spoke to her. She introduced me to Visconti as well...she had asked me how the sound had been and I told her it was way too muddled, too fucking loud almost to the point of clipping. She said "Tony" had said the same thing, and I looked over and there he was. She introduced us and we shook hands...he is eight feet tall. Then she offered me a guest list pass to the St. Louis show (her hometown.) I declined, since I'm seeing Kristin Hersh play next Tuesday night. I've been kicking myself since. Then she told me that she was supposed to do an interview with Venus (alternachick magazine)after she left the venue, and I said that if Venus could put horrible-ass Cat Power on the cover a few months back, then they DEFINITELY owed her the same coverage. (But I'm sure she'll get relegated to some back page, right before the pocket-dildo ads...)
Anyway I had given her the Sour Patch Kids and she grinned from ear to ear and then showed them off to Tony. That made my day. She's so cute. And yeah Tony Visconti is WAY too fucking old for her. I, however, am the exact same age as she is..just an idea, KY...

  • I can almost guarantee that this will be done as an Encore to Morrissey's Birthday show in The Pagaent in KY's hometown.

  • but I wouldn't mind fucking her up the ass...
    Anonymous -- Friday May 18 2007, @07:39AM (#258720)
  • personally, i think shes horrible. as many, many people do awaiting morrissey to come on. She was practically booed off teh stage in Nov 06 at the Aragon, and shes back. I gues Moz must think she has talent. Which makes me accept her to some extent, but shes like Bjork on crack. I think shes used just to get everyone riled up before the "real" entertainment comes on.
bah. i said it. i dont mean to be hateful, but personally, she hurts my ears.

  • Sweety Pie is one of, if not THE, worst ever Moz songs ever. Talk about laziness in the studio. Let's just throw any old crap on as a b-side cos the Moz fans will buy it anyway. How could anyone think this useless song is worth the ten seconds it takes to press play and then realise how bad it is? Terrible mush. What a waste of money. Absolute and utter shit. I'd rather hear a gun being cocked at the side of my head than ever hear that song again. If I met Visconti I'd decapitate him with the cd.

  • 2 facts: Yes, Kristeen & Tony are an "Item".
Tony Visconti will produce Morrissey's next album. It will be a lot more experimental record, ie, Bowie (Low, Heroes, Lodger), Marc Bolan, Roxy Music, etc.
Think "Pig-sty" and "Now My Heart is Full".
It will be his Master Piece.
