I talked to Johnny tonight and he said that the box set is still a possibility. He is in the process of compiling songs to go on it. That being said, it sounded like it was a ways in the future (if it happens at all). He hinted that a lot of things with people in the band would have to happen for it to come to fruition.

I’m not suggesting that we take existing tracks and reproduce them – we can let Johnny Marr deal with that side of things. What I think would be great, and a nice morrisseysolo twist, would be to recreate each album with the best examples of live versions of each track.
It seams to me that the combined bootleg collections and intimate knowledge of users of this site are potentially the best producers of such a collection.
Bootleg experts could suggest their favourite versions and we could have a poll for each one. The winners of each poll could be then uploaded as a single download. It would be great to get a wide range of concerts included.
In addition there seams to be some very talented artists knocking about who could created artwork for each album, could be an original artwork or a smiths-style photo – again a poll may be needed to chose favourites.
So, starting with “The Smiths”, when were the best (or possible only) versions of Reel Around The Fountain / You've Got Everything Now / Miserable Lie / Pretty Girls Make Graves / The Hand That Rocks The Cradle / This Charming Man / Still Ill / Hand In Glove / What Difference Does It Make? / I Don't Owe You Anything / Suffer Little Children
Once “The Smiths” is out of the way, we can move onto “hatful of hollow” (is that a “proper” album?) or move straight to “Meat is Murder”. T the end we could tidy it up with a singles, b-sides and other obscurities collection.
I’m not volunteering for a moment to coordinate this (wouldn’t know how to and my bootleg collection is limited to a few tapes and dodgy videos) but I’d be very interested to see it happening.
So, what do other members think? Is it a goer? Is there enough active bootleggers to get a decent selection? Will enough members vote?
