First, thank you to whomever posted my music column in the Daily Evergreen about Morrissey's Spokane show. It was a pleasant surprise to log into Morrissey-Solo and see that.

Second, with that being said, I'm sure you'll understand my massive disappointment at the phone call I received ten minutes ago from TicketsWest, informing me that a) the Spokane show has been moved from the INB Performing Arts Center to the Big Easy concert venue (a smaller, club setting...probably because a lack of ticket sales), and that b) the show is also now 21+ (do venues give performers a cut of the alcohol sales?).

The best part? My 21st birthday is in June.

Life is dandy for under-21 eastern WA Morrissey fans. But apparently there were only a handful of us anyway. Ugh.

Just thought people would want to know.

I got a call from the good folks at Ticket West this afternoon. They are the company responsible for ticketing the Spokane, WA show Sat. May 5th. The venue has been changed from the Performing Arts Center to a club called the Big Easy.(Still in Spokane) Significant changes for fans, since it is now a 21+ show with general admission. The capacity is only 1500, so it should be quite an intimate affair.

  • You say this venue will provide an "intimate affair", but I would suggest that it is nowhere near the level of intimacy that Swallowneck offers in his affairs, which are also discreet!

  • Hmmm! This show has me perplexed. I'm just waiting for the complete cancellation. I had 2nd row for the original venue...a 20+ year dream to be within touching distance of Morrissey. I'm happy for the under 21 crowd, as it is only fair to those who purchased their tickets originally to an all ages show... but to make it General Admission is truly a muy bona drag. I am upset. Comfort me. Someone please tell me that my miserable 7 hour car trip from Boise (the armpit of the US) to Spokane (the city of outrageously priced botique hotels) is going to be worth the considerable downgrade in concert experience. Curse you, Spokane, for needing to be well rested for your marathon! Now that I have vented... I can't wait for this concert! Anyone with me?

  • could someone please update on this after the show- how it went, if there were alot of people there, anything of note that happened, etc., etc.?? crappily, i'm probably not going to be able to go, even though my apartment is right within walking distance of where he is playing downtown.. arrgh..:(
    anyway...

i think that it hasn't gotten much publicity here for one, considering that most every radio station is near-ignorant of who he is, or of his music. i am wondering if he has ever been to or played in spokane before?

since most people are more obsessed with running around the city in complete circles than seeing someone perform live, well, there you go. i remember when frank black played here at outback jacks and it was the same way, he walked right up to me the place was so small where he played. of course, the pixies DID pick spokane as one of only a few cities for their surprise reunion tour, surpassing seattle altogether.

so maybe we will grow on morrissey, and vice versa?? :)
(like mold on a bloomsday lilac?)

i'm sure if morrissey was AWARE of how many people wanted to see him under 21+ and won't be able to, he would do what he could to change that. but if there isn't enough ticket sales, artists commonly have to switch venues in order to "break even". though usually that's decided BEFORE the tickets go on sale, not after. :(

for those of you who do get to go, use the smaller venue advantage to tackle and mall moz with tons of lilac city luv! :D
