On the original soundtrack of new movie "This is England" is releaed in theatres on 27th Apr 2007(UK), there's a new version of THE SMITHS classic "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I want" covered by CLAYHILL .

Set in Uttoxeter, England during the 1980s, "This Is England" tells the story of an 11-year-old boy who shaves his head and falls in with an older neo-Nazi gang after his father dies.

  • This Is England is a must-see film. It is set in the 1980's Thatcher era. A young lad who has no friends, no father and no hope is befriended by a gang of local skinheads. The gang are into the fashion and the music, but when an older gang member is released from prison, things turn ugly. This is another brilliant film by the excellent Shane Meadows, whose previous films include 24/7, A Room For Romeo Brass and the outstanding Dead Man's Shoes. The inclusion of Clayhill's version of Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I want is particularly poignant. Do not miss this great film, it's packed with believable, realistic performances, especially from Thomas Turgoose in his debut performance. If there's any justice, this film will win lots of awards that it deserves. Cheers

  • Funny, seeing as the Smiths hadn't even formed in the time this movie was set.

But there's no doubt even so that a Smiths track isn't essential in any portrait of 1980's England.

  • Its a fantastic film, the period detail is unbelieavaly good - I would have been 14 when the film was set and remember it all very well, probably too well - there are a lot of things I thought I'd forgotten that came flooding back and brought me down with a bump.

If anyone is interested and is either younger than 40 or from outside the UK - its an accurate snapshop of the time - and the inclusion of this version of 'Please.." is poignant and fitting.
