Finalists announced on February 28th - esctoday.com
UK: It's not Morrissey (or Billie Piper)!

The BBC will reveal the finalists that will compete in the fourth annual Making Your Mind Up national final on February 28th. esctoday.com can reveal that Morrissey will not be featured either as a singer or a songwriter. The full list of participants will be revealed on Wednesday 28th February, and of course esctoday.com will as usual be at the annual launch event to bring you the best online coverage of the United Kingdom.

Morrissey, who's name spread around the world as a potential songwriter for the United Kingdom's Eurovision Song Contest entry this year, will not be playing a part in Making Your Mind Up.

News spread from The Sun to CNN and was a regular spot on the BBC News 24 channel when it was announced that he had been contacted but esctoday.com has been officially told by the BBC that "Morrissey will not be involved this year".

The BBC confirmed it has spoken to Morrissey as it had done a number of other artists as is always the case when looking for artists to take part.

Other claims that Billie Piper would participate were also dismissed as laughable. The former pop star has been keen to promote her growing reputation as an actress after winning several awards for her role in the new Doctor Who series and has made it clear on many occasions that she sees acting as her career focus for the foreseeable future.

As a member of the 'Big Four' countries, the United Kingdom automatically qualifies for the Eurovision Song Contest final on 12th May in Helsinki.

  • The honesty and sincerity with Billie will affect anyone who remembers Morrissey during The Smiths. That striking honest perspective of a guy that once existed in the innocence of emoting. A quaint awkward acknowledgement of being a human in our emotional drama of life, against the backdrop of materialism and self-pretension as a value system of life. If Billie hasn't revealed her heart at this time will she ever? No. Maybe she will turn into a pretentious person when she is older, or maybe she was one before. But she is really a good person right now. She is somber and I appreciate that, in contrast. The Smiths boy with emotion Morrissey still grabs my heart more than any modern grown up maturity of realism will ever. Viva the Human Condition, as much as it hurts, it's better than becoming the alternatives.

    Plus Doctor Who Rules. :)
