Nipped into the Trafford Centre in Manchester this afternoon during my lunch break and on my way out who should walk past on his way in but Moz ! He looked very dapper dressed in a grey suit jacket and matching flat cap. He went into HMV and after a few mins pondering if I should approach him or not I decided I would, we spoke for 3 or 4 mins on him being my hero the up comimg US tour , I asked him what he was doing in Manchester and he told me he was visiting family. I said goodbye and thanked him for changing my life !! What a lunch break ! I can now die a happy man.

It was only a breif chat but he said he could not wait to do a proper tour in the states after a gap of about 2 or 3 years ( not sure if it has been that long or not )

  • Do you think he wears the flat cap like a disguise, รก la Clark Kent, or maybe he's just giving the ol' quiff the day off?

How wonderful for you. Glad you got to talk to him.

  • What a great thing to happen! I think it was very polite of you not to have whipped out your camera phone- so many people would have done that (at least here in the USA). Very respectful attitude, I'm so thrilled for you! Glad you went back, too. Solid choice!

  • That's absolutely thrilling! (With my Mr. Magoo-like vision would I have a hard time discerning if it was actually him, or is he unmistakeable as you'd expect?) What a day for you! :)

  • Thank you for sharing this with us, bigal1426, I think it has been awhile since we've seen a topic about meeting him where everyone is leaving so many supportive and happy comments. I am most certain Morrissey would be very unmistakably recognisable too. As you said about recognising his walk, he does have a particular way of walking on stage that is so natural that it would be his same way of walking when not on stage. ;)

I enjoyed reading about your experience, and all the nice comments it has inspired. Well done! :)

  • I think it's every fans dream. I imagine what I would do if the same happened to me, I bet you couldn't quite believe it. There is just one thing though, people always say "never meet your heroes, you'll only be disappointed". You weren't were you?

I know id rather meet Morrissey in HMV than win the lottery any day!

  • Why is no one questioning the authenticity of this post? The Trafford Centre is a hellhole of a place where only cold-hearted, emotion-free teenage girls survive and flourish. The shops are piss poor too - often stocking season-end bargain bin stuff the city centre outlets can't shift - so why would Morrissey go there? To HMV? Has he never heard of on-line shopping - you can't tell me they stock anything he either doesn't already own or is interested in

  • Sounds authentic to me. I met Morrissey in (I think) 1993 in Waterstone's in central Manchester (not the one that's there now, the other one on the square). He was looking at the true crime section and running his hands over the books in a rather curious way. He was dressed in black denim and wearing shades, and his friend Linder Sterling was with him. I only shook his hand and said, if I recall correctly, 'nice one, mate' (bet he was impressed) but he smiled and sort of bowed, which was quite funny. He was MUCH bigger than I'd imagined - thick set and over six foot tall (maybe he was wearing thick heels?). He and Linder then disappeared upstairs - there was a poetry reading going on by Mancunian poets. It was one of those once-in-a-lifetime things and I'm glad I didn't make too much of a fool of myself!

    Well done that man!

  • ...to actually speak to him!
When I met him in 1991 I was so awestruck I could not say a thing. Thankfully I got his signature anyway since I managed to hand him a piece of paper. "Oh, how small!" he said, then signed it while touching my hand!!!.

Thank you for sharing this with us, mate!

Funny thing, once in Manchester myself and some friends ran into Sid Little in a bar,he was pissed off though as one guy in there kept calling him Tommy...he thought he was Tommy Cannon.lol...not exactly a brush with greatness.
