During the Decemberists' show at Manchester Academy 2 on 5th Feb, someone in the crowd shouted "Do a Smiths cover!". Colin Meloy quipped that "When you play in Paris you have to speak to the crowd in French, and when you play in Manchester you have to do a Smiths cover."

Then, during the encore, at the end of 'Eli, The Barrow Boy', they played 'Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want', much to the amazement of the crowd.

I have spent my whole life in ruin's, because of people who are nice.
  • ... is that we still find valuable column inches to discuss artists riding on the back of Mozzer's shirt tails like giddy simpletons ripping off his artistic glory for all it is worth.

I repeat - SWALLOWNECK DOES NOT APPROVE!!!

Don't rake up my mistakes, I know exactly what they are!
  • Smiths covers (Score:2, Interesting)

The Decemberists have also been known to end their shows with "Youth & Beauty Brigade" going into "Ask" which may sound odd (if you know the song!) until you hear it live.

They're really a good band (and really fun to see live!), and they do end up doing quite a few shows in the UK, so all you UK people should definitely try to see them!
