I think I like this show review the best so far. It sounds like a true fan wrote it.:)

I don't have much in common with Mr. Brown, and I think many of his comments are a bit silly, but his timeline sounds familiar. I did not listen to Morrissey that much in the '90s either, and neither did my Smiths-era friends. Something changed with his solo career and, at the same time, something changed with all of us. I never lost my affection for him, or my respect, but I did grow out of his influence, as did everyone I know (except for one girl who moved into his driveway in LA, and then disappeared...)
I applaud all of you who have been there, continuously, for all these years. You all know a great artist when you hear one. But everyone has different needs and desires, and artists like Morrissey have a different role to play in all our lives.
There is no Morrissey bandwagon these days - he has no more cachet now than he ever has. My Smiths friends just think I'm going through a second adolescence, and no one else really cares all that much. The biggest Morrissey critic I know, the person who thinks he is a pathetic, washed-up sell-out is actually a former stage invader who gave up years of his life to the man in the '90s.
So, thetexasbloke, don't be so judgemental. On this site there are lifers who have been quite dismissive of his latest offerings, while wandering fans like myself have had nothing but good, supportive things to say about the man for the past few years. In the end what makes someone a "true" fan is not just a chronological consistency, but an emotional sincerity.

i don't know. sometimes i think that it would have been better to go through the good years, get to Southpaw and say, "well, i guess this is no longer my taste" and moved on and spared myself a whole bunch of needless time and effort waiting for the resurrection or a tour date....or, at the very least, treat him like I do with Belle and Sebastian and buy the new album and enjoy it without getting wrapped up in worry about when/if they're going to tour.
funny when i do the math. Belle and Sebastian, while they arguably have a following, aren't as popular or "legendary" as Morrissey or even had a song played on anything bigger than NPR, yet, i've seen them 3 times in Austin.
i know people might argue quality over quantity, but there is something grueling about being a die-hard morrissey fan. it is never about the easy and accessible. it's about airline flights, or baking in the sun at music festivals, or losing more money in return fees on tickets than you've actually spent on the concert.
who can really argue with what this writer is saying in some respects? do you want a life, or do you want to spend your days like Julia and live out some delusion that there is genuine love? that's why when i had my choice of arranging a 4 hour trek across the border a couple of weeks ago or staying here, i chose life.
