According to the thread at Velvet Rope (link originally posted by Jones in the forums):

...from Sanctuary HR:

Please note that Merck Mercuriadis has tendered his resignation, which Sanctuary has accepted, and at the close of business today will no longer be employed by Sanctuary. Further information will be forthcoming as necessary. In the interim, you may please contact *** or *** (to protect the innocent) if you have any immediate concerns or questions.

An anonymous person sends the news from Hits Daily Double:

MERCK AND ELTON SPLIT: As part of his expected exit from Sanctuary Music to possibly join Irving Azoff's management company, Merck Mercuriadis will no longer be managing Elton John. According to a statement issued on behalf of John's management company Twenty-First Artists, John will now be repped for the U.K. and the rest of the world by his longtime friend of the court, veteran British music exec Clive Banks, former Simple Minds manager and Island U.K. managing director. In the U.S., Johnny Barbis, who also has had a longstanding business relationship with the superstar, will reportedly consult Sanctuary as Elton's stateside management rep. Mercuriadis is expected to bring clients Axl Rose and Morrissey with him. (10/31p)

Moz should be managed BY Irving Azoff. His unorthodox business methods would certainly suit Morrissey, I believe he would push for singles to be played more on radio and would certainly do a better job of bringing Moz to the masses. It was Azoff that helped Eagles achieve the biggest selling album in US history afterall.

  • Interesting news -- I think a little chaos in camp Morrissey is a good thing, but what effect, if any, will this have on the tour (especially the rumored 2007 leg)?

Legal Eagles -- if Morrissey signed to Sanctuary, how viable is it for Merck to "bring him" somewhere else?

Morrissey and Axl Rose have been mentioned in the same sentence on more than one occasion recently...Can a duet be far off?

I fear if those two personalities ever got in the same room together their unstable electrons would create either a fusion reaction, providing the world with an unlimited output of power, or fission that could result in a Chernobyl-like deadly explosion.

  • That Azoff may just be interested in Guns and Roses as a potential money spinner. Merck may well want to carry on working with Morrissey but if the Guns and Roses relationship falls through Morrissey may find himself on the scrapheap again.

  • so, it appears that where Merck is going to take his management business elsewhere, so if Moz tags along, that means he will be managed by somebody other than Sanctuary, but will still be recording albums for Sanctuary....?

    I scare dead people.
  • When Guns n Roses i.e. Axl Rose finally releases "Chinese Democracy," it will sell well over 10 million copies worldwide, or roughly 10 times more than Moz's entire Attack catalog.
