"Half a Person: My Life as Told by The Smiths"
A new one man play about a young man who life is afffected by the music of The Smiths and Morrissey opens on 22-25 November in Adelaide, South Australia as part off the Feast Festival. The play is written by prolific playwright Alex Broun, directed by Robert Chuter and features David Forster as William.
William, a 22 year-old young man who has three obsessions: very strong long blacks, pining for his lost Salome, and listening to The Smiths and Morrissey. It is a time of confusion and upheaval for William, but one of discovery. One of these is ‘the wonderful, sad, lyrical poetry mixed with brooding, soaring guitar riffs’ of Eighties band The Smiths. The other is the deep and emotional connection he shares with his older friend, playwright Rick. But the final discovery to rock William’s world is his unquenchable desire for a disaster named Salome. All of these elements are intertwined in this beautifully dark, funny and moving play – set to the music of The Smiths and Morrissey – the music that dictates William’s early twenties: ‘Half-life’.

I think the terms long and short black, and flat white, are possibly unique to the Antipodes and possibly the ex-pat community in London. Hope that clears up the potential mystery
