CIC 2005, February 2 - 4, 2005, The Century Plaza Hotel, Los Angeles, CA He mentions Morrissey and Sanctuary and Jed. This site is normally restricted to paying members, but this page is freely accessible here. Enjoy. [edit]Having now read this article myself, I can see why Morrissey was ultimately won over by Sanctuary; though it makes his bitching about lack of support a lot less convincing.[edit] --- Excerpt: ...In 2004, we decided at Sanctuary to put our faith, focus and determination behind Morrissey. For seven years, he was not able to even get a record deal, yet as a result of his great artistry and our efforts, the tipping point came, and he had by far the most successful album of his career, selling over 1.5 million records worldwide, having a top 10 album all over the world – No. 11 in the U.S., being the only artist in five years to have four consecutive top 10 singles in the U.K. and selling tens of thousands of concert tickets all over the world. Again, this was down to the faith, focus and determination of a few people including Rick Roskin, Peter Asher, John Jackson, Jed Weitzman, Brian Murphy, Clear Channel, SJM, Chris York, Simon Moran – some of who are here today.

Morrissey: support @ Sanctuary? (Score:1)
Snippets:
"Our industry is now the blockbuster business not dissimilar to movies, and career artists are less important. The target audience is the passive consumer and that is the clear difference.
The golden era of the music business targeted the music enthusiast. In today’s world, he has been disenfranchised while the majors chase the passive consumer who, as we discovered above, does not give a fuck about music."
"This is why we now work in a business that is dictated to by research, focus groups, BDS, SoundScan, and Bree, Susan, Lynette, Gabrielle, Edie or one of the other 100 million desperate housewives across the country that decide what music you get to hear on the radio, because it may influence their decision as to which soap powder they might buy."
"But there is no question that we are at an important time in the evolution of our industry and it’s going to have to take some faith, focus, determination as well as a resounding “Fuck the professional excuses” to develop great artists and the relationship between those great artists and an audience of people that consider music to be a significant factor in their lives.
An audience that does want the record, that does want the bootleg, that does want the concert ticket and the T-shirt and are willing as they always have been to pay for it."
Bottom line: "Sanctuary won't forget the "career artists" because they have "career fans" who'd rather spend their hard-earned cash on an album rather than on a holiday to Yucatan".
So yes, that means getting a top single or album rating is no longer on Sanctuary's priority list.
