  • I remember last year, they brought out a John Peel compliation and it included ' How Soon Is Now? '. And now 'TIALTNGO'? I can't understand it, 'Reel Around The Fountain' was his favourite Smiths tune.

Anyway, some great tunes on this one, I'm glad they've finally got it right, Peel wasn't a big champion of the mainstream bands, sure he helped the likes of Buzzcocks, the Smiths, Pulp and Suede get popular, but his shows were really all about showing people different generes of music.

  • On a slightly related note I have to say that when I saw Johnny Marr performing an impromptu version of Teenage Kicks on the day that John Peel's death was announced it was probably the best moment I have seen in concert.

Johnny was guesting with The Finn Brothers that night and when a fan requested Teenage Kicks it was clear that Neil and Tim weren't aware of the song. The fan then shouted, 'Johnny knows it' and he then played a note perfect rendition. Touching and it reminded me of what a great guitarist he is.

  • Will this be out in the US? I don't think that version's been released officially, and I'd be excited to hear it (and the other stuff too)...

  • teenage kicks by the undertones was his favorite song of all time. the thing is, people like to remember peel as loving the smiths. but there was a time when he actually was somewhat against them. he was pissed i think in 88 or so when they broke up, and the whole strangeways album made his festive top 50.

  • Beautifully timed for the start of the student year!

I can just see those first years' in their little rooms, nonchalantly sliding their new CD in to play.
Then lighting a spliff - rolling practice all summer paying off!- and leaning back to bathe in their new-found friends' looks of wonder and appreciation of one cool cat!!
