  • 681 copies lands a number 11 slot in the US? must be a slow week for gangsta rap and teeny bopper girls...

  • Heh, heh. Well, news is news.

Some folks here, including myself, reported last week that they didn't find the single available at their favorite record store.

So, I predict the single's position will move up by next week.

  • How much does it cost in the US?
I have paid almost 6 euro for the 3-track single
in Italy, no wonder they sell so few singles now.

  • since i read that others were not having any luck finding the single, i've been taking my time about going over to my usual haunt to look for it as i've been a busy individual and don't have much time to hang around anywhere these days....

  • I could not find the single at the two shops I frequent in Seattle, so I went home and downloaded it from iTunes...i then proceeded to bang my wife to the sounds of the undergorund.

  • Misleading (Score:4, Informative)

It's misleading to say that Morrissey is #11 in the singles chart in the US, without pointing out that the Billboard Hot 100 is the de facto singles chart in the US, even more so since now digital downloads count towards positions in the Hot 100 (and popular songs sell tens of thousands of paid downloads a week in the US). Morrissey is, of course, nowhere in the Hot 100. His position quoted in the news item above is in a singles chart that is no more than a cheap gimmick, now that no major act releases physical singles in the US.

You bring up a good point.

Billboard use SoundScan as a basis for sales of units when they compile these charts. Of course, once airplay and download reports are counted in, positions on the Billboard chart change.

This news item seems to quote a basic SoundScan report of Morrissey's/Youngest Maxi CD released last week in the US. It is not clear whether this is a just regional report or national (I hope it's regional!)

I'm not sure what you mean by a physical single. Are you refering to a package CD with a barcode, as opposed to a digital download? Well, SoundScan as far as I know only involved with retail sales of packages or units. Participating SoundScan retailers scan the barcode found on, in this case, a maxi cd during a transaction and that sale is reported.

Artists and record companies use the data in many ways, but that's a whole other topic.

  • This must be the singles "sales chart" but it is in no way the Billboard #11. The video has not been played and you don't hear the song anywhere.

  • there must be something horribly wrong with them, why such a great single isn't easily available for the americans?, and the billbored list is so devious and unreliable that is a waste of time to expect something good of it.. anyway, Morrissey is supreme, that's all.
