An anonymous person writes:
At Toronto's Pride, two women were handing out leaflets promoting Morrissey's ROTT to any and all passers-by. When asked why she would be promoting an artist in Toronto who has not only publicly professed to be avoiding all Canadian cities for his current tour, but who has also called for the boycott of all Canadian products, one of the hawkers replied disinterestedly, "ten bucks an hour, that's why." Perhaps an even more interesting question is why Morrissey's "people" are specifically targeting a gay audience. Is his new(-ish) album being promoted at other gay pride events around the world?

  • thats a pretty good wage.

ido find it pretty arrogant for Morrissey/Sanctuary to be holding any special promotions in Canada while Moz is advocating a boycott on Canadian goods and refusing to step foot in the country. im sure Moz is likely unaware of such a minor promotion, but he should be issuing clear directives to his promoters to avoid this sort of thing, and if Sanctuary is actually interested in the Canadian market they should be offering more than an album- they should be offering an apology.

  • STATEMENT FROM USA-UK-CANADA-NO-EH (June 28, 2006)

For those of you who were offended by my 'anti-Canadian' remarks following Morrissey's 'anti-Canadian' refusal to play any concerts in Canada, his 'anti-Canadian' boycott of all Canadian goods, and finally his 'anti-Canadian' slander regarding Nazi gas chambers and being lower than China *sigh* .... I have the following to say:

    Thank you for your input.

For those of you who agreed with and applauded my 'anti-Canadian' remarks following Morrissey's 'anti-Canadian' refusal to play any concerts in Canada, his 'anti-Canadian' boycott of all Canadian goods, and finally his 'anti-Canadian' slander Regarding Nazi gas chambers and being lower than China *sigh* .... I have the following to say:

Thank you for taking part in this experient!!! :-) :-P ... pause ...

I am Jeremy, from Plaquemine, Louisiana, USA. My home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina last September 2005. This whole crusade is repayment for the kindness shown by random strangers from our north, including the Canadian relief effort, and ordinary Canadian citizens. I have spent a great deal of time with them, and have been touched by how much we have in common.

I know a lot more about Canadians than you think. I AM DOING THIS FOR A SPECIAL REASON, and my Canadian friends understood this and why I did it.

Those who belong in the second category .. and a few others too .. are now going to get what they deserve.

Before Hurricane Katrina, I swear to you I didn't know where Canada was on a map, let alone knew how much a part of American culture Canadians have played. When (long overdue) help arrived from Canadians, it was a special time for me, because not only did I find out so much about our northern neighbors, but by how much we have in common, both gripes and kudos. There is a long list of these. But I am eternally grateful.

Many of you may ask: WHY did I SLAM and BERATE Canadians on my website originally, and around various message boards?

    I'll tell you why.

I am a first-rate bastard by nature. I am generally very rude to others, spiteful, and vindictive. For the longest time in my life, that's all I've known myself to be. Something was biting me for the very longest time, but I could never put my finger on it. Enter Katrina. Sure there were frustrating moments when waiting for help to arrive, but when it did I slowly became grateful.

As I learned more and more about Canadians, I came to appreciate what kind of society they have, one of tolerance, one of kindness, and one of helping others, much the same values Americans have. Unfortunately, and to my great disbelief, I also came to learn about the animosity held by others towards Canada, including journalists, politicians, activists, and musicians. Journalists including Ann Coulter, Tucker Carlson, Bill O'Reilly, and of course who could forget John Gibson. Politicians like Pat Buchanan, John Hostsettler, Jesse Helms ... but especially Pat. Activist groups like HSUS, R-CALF, and especially PETA. And then of course, musicians, ignorant, selfish, spiteful, divisive ones .. like M-O-R-R-I-S-S-E-Y.

And I guess that's what this is all about. On March 28th, 2006, this musician, who I had never even heard of before, came up with the beautiful gem:

"We will not include any Canadian dates on our world tour to promote our new album. This is in protest against the barbaric slaughter of over 325,000 baby seals which is now underway.
I fully realise that the absence of any Morrissey concerts in Canada is unlikely to bring the Canadian economy to its knees, but it is our small protest against this horrific slaughter - which is the largest slaughter of marine animal species found anywhere on the planet. The Canadian Prime Minister says the so-called "cull" is economically and environmenta
