According to a post by deathfornoreason on the general board, "The Youngest Was The Most Loved" premiered on VH2 on May 6:

Anyone seen "The Youngest...." video yet?

The video for "The Youngest..." premiered (I think.... certainly haven't seen it anywhere else before) on VH2 this morning. For anyone who hasn't seen it, it features Moz, playing the Youngest, in handcuffs being taken to a car by Italian police - played by the band, including Alain. Paparazzi surround the car. Throughout the video, Moz has a constant smile on his face - "A lop-sided grin...." which eventually turns into laughter when he's inside the car. The video is in black and white.

It's a great video, certainly one of Morrissey's best.

  • they could have revealed the handcuffs later on in the video though, that would have made it ironic.

"... turn popular song into sickness"
  • "Right - we've got £500 in the kitty for the video. What should we do?"
"Moz can leave a police station. We'll get Boz and co to dress up as police - cheaper. He can leave the station and get into a car as paps take pictures"
"You idiot - this needs to last nearly 3 minutes."
    "We'll just drag it out"
    "It'll look boring"
"We'll make it black and white"
    "Still boring!"
"Alright - Moz can smile as he gets in the car"
    "BRILLIANT!"

  • Not only is it a "real" video, it is actually interesting from the perspective of being inventive and almost experimental! Well, done. (It's sort of a play on his standard, I'm walking and the band is walking behind me videos.)

  • Moz Once Said Videos Dont Resemble What The Song Is About, Its Got Nothing To Do With It. My Comments Are That A video Is Created To Please The Likes Of MTV From Their Viewers Looking At A Blanc Screen, But It Is Good To See Him Represent His Work Of Art. Mancunians and all note THIS IS NOT A POP AT HIM OR VIDS!

  • I like this song very much and hope it does well. I wish that the refrain of the children's choir had been used as a back-drop to Morrissey's 'la la laaaing at the end' That would have been the icing on the cake. When I first heard the track I felt sure that the choir was going to come back in at the end somewhere. Yamaha

  • Kind of a blooper in the video at around 1:06. The photographer near the center of the frame has his finger in front of the lens. I don't know why I noticed this, but it just JUMPS out every time I watch the video. A REAL paparazzi wouldn't let his finger end up there.

  • The idea behind the video is brilliant, what a statement with Morrissey walking out of the courthouse.
But I found the paparazzi very distracting. I think they stole just as more time in front of the cameras, if not more!

  • the video is embarassing. if you saw it for any other band you'd agree, but somehow moz is like george bush he can get away with seemingly anything.

i was walking in the sunshine today and thinking of how crap and pretentious and really UNintelligent morrissey has become. i know these words will only annoy the vast majority, but ring true with a minority, so if you want to nod at the screen in agreement at how crap he's become, then read on. otherwise, maybe not.

it's so clear from his new album and equally from you are the quarry that he's lost it lyrically. heavens above, these lyrics are TERRIBLE. what does "living the one true free life born" actually MEAN!? it means nothing at all. it's embarassing bono-esque bullshit. and you can disect practically every lyric on the new album and cringe. it's evidently not very inspired is it? i dont expect the lapdogs to agree, of course. but to anyone who has a brain, you can notice a sharp decline in morrissey's lyrics around southpaw era. i happen to think that lyrically the maladjusted album is miles better than the new stuff.

the father who must be killed is like eminem's 'stan'. it's a terrible story that sounds better in a bad hollywood movie. and why do you want to hear this morbid story over and over again? one listen worthy, methinks.

the album has no continuity lyrically it just flutters around and never really says anything meaningful at any point at all. and i just dont UNDERSTAND the songs...it sounds like nowadays he just wants to sound melodramatic and any words which collectively give off drama he'll use. so 'stepchild' supposedly sounds deep, for instance. it's embarassing. I will see you in far off places? what does that mean? please!!! it's just rhetoric and vapid and bono-filler-territory from start to finish.

moz seems to have lost all sense of self-awareness, particularly since living in LA though i'm not saying the place is the cause, just him living in an ivory tower for years, with an enormous ego shown by the way he has to be critical of every other band ever and he has to be rude about the smiths and moronically bitter. mister "i hold a grudge" morrissey.

    done!
