After being released late (on 31st March 2006) on 7" and MXCD (the English CD2 only), You Have Killed Me finally entered the official German single charts yesterday at #65.

Though Morrissey's singles since 1991 never had a great impact on the single charts, this is a disappointing rank.

In opposite to both CD versions of ROTT, released here on 7th April and due to enter the german album charts next friday (21st April), it is difficult to buy the MXCD in local stores; the 7" is virtually only available in virtuality - the online stores.

I have asked Sanctuary Germany about the releases in Germany. They said that they only do the 7" and the 3-Track MXCD, though all 3 formats were announced earlier.

As they use the same releases as in the UK, the 3-Track is marked as 'CD2' though there is no CD1 here! As it is easy to import nowadays, it is quite sure that some 2-Track CD's find their way into german shops, too.

I have seen only a few copies: Karstadt has the MXCD in stock (at least their computer says so), but not at all shops. As they generally stock the Top 50 only, #65 means that they won't order more copies for the next weeks.
The next Media Markt had one copy filed under 'M general'. Some stores had nothing in stock (the Moriss-who? phenomenon).
I know that Saturn does actually sell LP's but i don't know any larger chain that has 7" in stock.

I guess we have to wait for any Morrissey tune used in a T-Com TV-spot - that guarantees a Top10 here rank nowadays...

  • For everyone outside of the big cities buying a Morrissey-Single in a store is almost impossible. Therefore, I ordered it via amazon.de where it came as a UK-import, rising the number of sold copies there. I'm quite sure, most of the huge fans here in Germany (those collecting albums AND singles) do it this way. So without spreading those beautiful items all over Germany, there is hardly any chance of ever entering the charts in a high spot.
For the album, I think a Top 10-ranking here is very well possible, considering that "You are the Quarry" made it into the Top 10, too. Still Moz is not at all promoted in this country - hardly any airplay and even Morrissey's albums one can't buy everywhere. Go to "Wal-Mart" or go to "Karstadt" and you can get Grup Tekkan as well as our "Superstar" Tobias Regner but no Moz in sight.
Considering this, it is almost unbelievable he still makes it into the charts - a fact that just speaks for the unique quality of his music... and for an adoring fanbase in Germany. So PLEASE Morrissey - be so kind and award those fans with a beautiful concert... whereas a mass-festival for unworthy chart-listeners such as "Rock am Ring" does not count.
