Requiescant Inpacce writes:
'Vauxhall & I' has been placed in Mojo Magazines Top 100 Modern Classic Albums, i.e. the Top 100 albums released since issue #1 of Mojo in September 1993.

Coming in at a rather disappointing No.63, the blurb that accompanies the entry reads as follows:
"Recorded at Abbey Road, this was the flawlessly coherent album Morrissey fans had been willing since the demise of The Smiths. Replacing 'Kill Uncle's wistful anti-pop and 'Your Aresenal's glam buffeting with a statley strength and restraint, 'Vauxhall & I' arrived draped in the muted undertone of a man who had just lost three of his collaborators: Mick Ronson, manager Nigel Thomas and video director Tim Broad. It remains his most complete work to date".

For anyone interested, the Top 10 is:
10: Beck: 'Odelay'
9: Nirvana: 'MTV Unplugged In New York'
8: The White Stripes: 'Elephant'
7: Radiohead: 'Kid A'
6: The Flaming Lips: 'The Soft Bulletin'
5: Oasis: 'Definetely Maybe'
4: Bob Dylan: 'Time Out Of Mind'
3: Radiohead: 'OK Computer'
2: Johnny Cash: 'American Recordings'
1: Jeff Buckley: 'Grace'

  • This album is wheeled out purposely for these Fucking lists. it was never as good as any of the "post-death" reviews. It is nothing more than OK

"I'm just passing through here on my way to somewhere civilized and maybe I'll even arrive, maybe I'll even arrive..."
  • Anything with Johnny Cash ranked second cannot be valid.

It's either A Boy Named Sue, Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, that "U2 one he sang at the end on" and "that Nine Inch Nails song he covered."

    Oh, and he wore black...

  • seeing as Vauxhall and I was about no. 70 in NME's top 100 of all time.

Still, good to see Bob Dylan high up - like Moz, someone who went through a period of being a bit crap, and came out better than ever the other side.

  • As good as Grace is, the best album of that period? Please.

This is too odius a list to really bother commenting upon. It's nothing short of a disgrace. How high was Bob Dylan?
