Victoria lines up legend Morrissey - Halifax Today MUSIC legend Morrissey – of cult 80s band The Smiths – looks set play a surprise date in Halifax. But fans of the Manchester singer will have to wait before they can buy tickets as The Victoria Theatre is still waiting to sign the contract for the May 10 gig. But this hasn't stopped fans trying to grab their places at the concert, as music magazines have already listed the gig as happening. Chris Murgatroyd, marketing manager of the Victoria Theatre, said: "All I can say is that a date has been pencilled in and we are in very advanced negotiations. "But until the contracts are exchanged we can't confirm that it will happen. But we expect confirmation very quickly. "It'll be a great date for the theatre, and we should know if it's happening within 10 days." Although the gig has not yet been officially confirmed, the concert looks set to form part of a 30-date tour to follow the March release of Morrissey's new album, The Ringleader Of The Tormentors. Other tour venues include Manchester, London and Glasgow. The Victoria is also in talks to sign up comedian Jo Brand for a show on April 26.

This is great news for those of us in West Yorkshire who have been following Morrissey for some considerable time.
Halifax, in Calderdale, is a wonderful town with great people.
Just a bus ride away from the equally glorious Huddersfield.
For those of you travelling to this gig from outside of the White Rose county, do take time to explore the area. You won't be disappointed!
It shall be a very proud day for me. Thank you sir Moz.
