A lot of people have been asking questions about the Manchester venues. I'm from Manchester and I'm happy to give some information regarding the venues and the Morrissey disco which is on the same weekend as the concerts!

SALFORD Lowry (in Manchester) - set in a stunning location, in a gorgeous new theatre/hall/art gallery complex near Manchester United's football ground. Usually classical concert and avant-garde plays take place here. Will probably be seated and civilised.

MANCHESTER Apollo - will be the most energetic of all these gigs. A big moshpit down the front, and all standing downstairs. Can get quite sweaty and heaving in this area. There are balconies too with seating only. An older venue that tends to attract livelier crowds.

MANCHESTER Opera House - very bizarre choice. Gorgeous old-fashioned interior, usually houses musicals such as Miss Saigon, Les Miserables, etc. Only seating. This will be interesting.

MANCHESTER Bridgewater Hall - even more bizarre. Almost always only has classical concerts. Acoustics are fantastic. Morrissey's voice will sound excellent here, but also only seating in this very modern and architecturally-beautiful building.

MORRISSEY DISCO - as many of you know, the Morrissey disco in Manchester is held the first Friday of every month - this coincides with the May dates (the 6th I think, or 7th). Entry is v. cheap, and the venue is always packed. Its at the Star and Garter near Piccadilly train station. Great atmosphere, but entry is only permitted if you sing the Sister I'm A Poet backwards whilst standing on one knee (just kidding).

  • I'm going to see Nick Cave there in a few weeks I will decide then if thats where I want to see Morrissey unless I already have bought my Moz ticket by then. Meant to be very nice, made for classical music if I'm not mistaken. Very good acoustics, looks a bit sterile though on the website not very rock and roll. Ah well we'll see.

  • Thanks a lot, it was very kind of you to provide such information... I had the chance to see Him both in seated venues (RAH) and in standing ones (E.C) and enjoyed either show. I'm just weighing up if I can afford the trip, well aware that I CANNOT... ;0P

  • The Bridgewater is not so bizarre in that when his good friend Nancy last played in Manchester, it was there.
