Whilst reading the free MEN light newpaper this Thursday i was shocked and ashamed to discover that David Cameron (possibly the next Tory leader) is a self proclaimed Smiths Fan.

The paper was asking both David Cameron and David Davis what they knew about Manchester and where they have been. Cameron stated that he had been to Salford, so he could go and pose outside Salford Lads club. !!!

Vote Cameron !!!

  • Don't fall for it! I'll bet Morrissey would cringe if he knew this plummy little Tory twat liked The Smiths. Wonder what Cameron makes of "Margaret On A Guillotine"....?

  • I KNEW there was a reason to like Cameron over that dinosaur Davis that was more personal to me than politics. Excellent...

  • oh dear god. please realise that even the most sin absolving gesture of morrissey fandom does not make david cameron, or the tory party, any more worthy of a single vote. though i must say, it really is a shameful blot on the character of any smiths/moz fan to be associated in any way with a prospective conservative leader. i say MPs leave sensitive issues such as music taste well and truly out of the public eye.

  • In all fairness to David Cameron- and I speak as a man who has spent his life opposing everything the vile Tory Party has stood for, and would rather have my todge cut off by a bacon slicer than vote for them - Cameron did once say

"I like depressing left-wing music; like The Smiths and Radiohead."

So he does at least acknowledge Moz as a lefty; and wouldn't be surprised that Moz won't be exactly thrilled at his endorsement.

What does this "mean"? Simply that demographics are catching up with us. A man in his (very) late 30s may well have liked The Smiths at the time; he doesn't have to have bought their "world view". I actually believe him. Fair play. I'd still rather stick my dick in a cheese-grinder than vote for the Eton-Tory-Prick; but let him have his decent musical tastes. Maybe St Peter will look at him kindlier at the pearly gates. ;-)

  • The last couple of pras of this tongue-in-cheek piece also refer to the limits of his Smiths fandom. http://www.ekklesia.co.uk/content/news_syndication /article_05126tory.shtml
