Mickey Ferry writes:
Veteran Irish folk singer Christy Moore has recorded a version of the Moz track 'America Is Not The World' and re-named it 'America I Love You'. It features on Moore's new album 'Burning Times' which is now available. Moore first covered the track last year while on tour. His new album also feaures versions of Natalie Merchant's 'Motherland' and Bob Dylan's 'Lonesome Death Of Hattie Carroll, so it could be well worth checking out. Moore was also in attendance when Moz played the final date of his world tour in Dublin last December. Info on the album can be found here.

  • Is Moore trying to be an apologist for Moz? I don't get why he'd change the title to "America Is Not The World" (and the lyrics as well, I'm guessing?) unless he was trying to kiss up to the USA a little. Id est, "Morrissey may think your country's current climate is full of crap, but I love you! Buy my record and imagine I'm singing personally to you!"

  • has taken part in plenty of anti iraq war demos.he is the only irish man that seems to give a shit about the occupation of iraq.give the man some slack he has spoken out about issues that has been a taboo in ireland for decades and he has very good taste in what he covers judging by his latest offering.

  • The simple answer to this is that it was an "error on my part" as Moore has stated repeatedly on his web site. He couldn't give a flying fiddlers fuck about US sales. He's over 60 years old - do you really think now is the best time for him to crack the US market. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of Moore knows that he will be pissed off after accidentally taking the sting out of Morrissey’s brilliant title. No apology for Morrissey (as if), no irony , no changing of lyrics - just a simple mistake.

  • Where has Moore"stated repeatedly" about the "error on (his) part?" A search on Moore's website gives us this quote from the news archive, May 18, 2005:

"There was also an interesting American Lady who took extreme exception to my version of Morrissey's song 'America, You are not the world' which I like to call 'America, I Love You'. She was seemingly distraught and has threatened to report me to the 'Irish Echo'. She caused a fierce hullabaloo and put on quite a show of solidarity with all things white and supreme…"

  • A decade ago I nearly drove over Christy Moore as he staggered across the Main Street of Newbridge. He was very drunk.
If I knew now what I know now I would have not missed..........How dare the baldy self-righteous prick fuck with Morrissey songs.

Why Oh ..Why.. Did I hit the brakes on my van.
    Oh Why. O why

Now he is in sobriety he is holier than thou....I hear the bar must be closed when he tries to sing a song. The smell is too tempting..

Christy stick to country folk and leave pop alone.

  • who really cares, it's without a doubt the worst song Morrissey has ever written. a horrid choice for an album opener (or even to be included) and the fact that it made the album over amazing songs such as friday mourning, never-played symphonies, ANY of the b-sides is just sad. If the lyrics weren't bad enough, that plastic drum beat is insufferable. Thank goodness I'm a ginormous Moz fan and had heard and loved almost all the other album tracks before I purchased it, because leading off with that song is enough to seriously shake confidence.

  • This is very exciting news. There is a holy trinity you see of seductive performers.Morrissey is the lord God our father o'course, Christy to his right excites night after night as I recall back to April 9th 1991 in Perth Australia when he took my hand after doing "Lisdoonvarna" and last but not least, the holy spirit is in us all in the shape of our Damien Dempsey who is fit to play a young Christy [ sans Planxty beard of course ] should RTE ever make the long awaited mini-series on the life of Christy Moore. If RTE can make tapes then why can't they make this? My three favorite men in the world - a blissful tri-fecta and I love yez all. Ta tu go h'alainn
