The legendary producer gets the Senior Vice President of A&R post at the major label

Legendary producer Steve Lillywhite has been appointed as Senior Vice-President of A&R at Columbia Records in New York. Lillywhite is one of the most respected and influential producers and was integral in carving a distinct sound to the UK music scene in the mid 70s and early 80s and has continued to do so to the present day. The list of artists is vast and includes some of the biggest names of the time.

  • I guess this is good news to hear.

After all, he did produce the 'best' Morrissey album, the 'worst' Morrissey album, and the 'lost' Morrissey album.

  • Does anyone know if Mr. Lillywhite is on good terms with Morrissey? (I don't follow all of that "who hates who" stuff: Robert Smith, David Bowie etc. etc.) The reason I ask is he now works in the same building I do I'll probably meet him sooner or later. I'd be a little embarressed to mention Morrissey if he doesn't like him.
