Rocksnob has an mp3 today purporting to be an unreleased Morrissey track:

"Gaz sent me this Morrissey track that was leaked back before 'You Are The Quarry' was released," she writes.

I've listened over and over, and I don't think it's Morrissey but rather someone doing a great impersonation, from the lyrics to the vocals and Spanish bits. But you never know with demos - it's a great song either way. Does anyone know what this song might be?

...and the song is called "Quo Esto Amore". I think this was the title of their demo.

And so I drank one, it became four, and when I fell on the floor, I drank more
  • There is no way in hell that is Moz. Secondly, the music bares no resemblance to Whyte/Boorer, but rather has a simalar intro to the 1988 outtake, "Please Help The Cause Against Loneliness".

  • ...but I totally fell for this, too. If I'm not mistaking, there is a lyric that goes, "the world is full of crashing bores and boys without style." For a while there, I believed I had an unreleased gem. Alas, I was mistaken. The world is truly full of crashing bores, and though I was fooled in this instance, I am not one!

  • If it is Morrissey it sounds like him and the band having a laugh. Not like a song they were ever intending to release.

A bit like the Viva Hate outtakes of Vinnie pretending to be Morrissey.

  • "It's not Morrissey, but an incredible simulation..."

No, of course it's not Morrissey. The voice is too high and pitchy. Morrissey's voice is deeper. I did get a kick out of hearing this. Good find for a laugh.

Best line of the song, off mike:
"oh, sod off you f**ckin students"

  • If anyone believes this to be Morrissey then they should just lob off both ears right now as they are obviously not worth anything to you in there current state anyway.

    1. The song is absolutely terrible and if morrissey releases something like that I think I will turn to the waiting arms of some manufactured nonsense for solace

    2. The vocal is awful and NOT morrissey. It might be Neil Morrissey (AKA Bob the builder) but its not Morrissey

    3. read point 1 again as it is so important!

  • Any word on who did that fake morrissey song from about 4 or 5 years back?

  • I remember a similar fiasco right before "Quarry" came out. There was another song by "The Boys" called "A New Girl Born" and people actually believed it to be a leaked Moz track. It was utter crap. Any fan worth his or her salt would at least recognize:

    a) The voice, obviously. It's some guy who can't carry a note to save his life doing a pathetic Morrissey impersonation.

    b) The lyrics. I think only casual fans would be fooled into thinking those were genuine. They were quite sad and clichéd.

    c) The music. It sounded like it was recorded using nothing more than a Fisher Price tape recorder and an old $20 Casio keyboard.

    'nuff said.

  • who on earth could ever believe that to be Morrissey or even entertain the notion for half a second. whata complete insult to Moz and The lads that something that shite could ever be believed to be associated with them in any way shape or form. shame, shame, shame.

  • the singer is called Renato Russo, he was from Brazil. and that song is from his solo carrer. He used to be in this band in the 80's called Legiao Urbana (Urban Legion) which it was heavily influenced by the smiths.

  • This is the same track that circulated under a false name prior to the release of You are the Quarry. Someone had named it after one of the tracks of the new Moz album, can't remember wich one though.

As i told you that time it was in fact the swedish band BOYS and their demo-song "Quo Estai Amore". I got this information from my friend John Ludvig who is one of the members of the band.

They have a record out now and you can listen to it here:

  • I listened to them at the above address & they sound really good ! Any idea what the album's called ? He does sing more similar to Morrissey than anyone I've ever heard.... but still a little unique ! Too bad their name is so generic. It'll be almost impossible to track down news or mp3's... unless I get that album title... Yeah

  • It sounds like the sort of lame musical pastiche that "Spitting Image" would have done (probably around last year) if it still existed.

Having said that though, Spitting Image was a very funny show.

Does anybody know it the band are marketing themsleves as Morrissey soundalikes?... or are they just being Morrissey-esque in a vain attempt to get noticed? I say this because it certainly doesn't do your career any harm if you get compared to Morrissey... take The Dears and The Ordinary Boys as recent examples.

Having said that though, I feel the band may be more novelty than novel.
