I was at the Billy Idol show the other day in LA, and saw Billy Duffy (Cult Guitarist).

I have always liked Billy Duffy, and was always interested in when he and Moz played in the Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds.

I asked Billy about it, and he just laughed and laughed.
"You're the first in a long time to bring that bit up. Yeah, we played together, but that was back when we were both punky teenagers."
"Do you ever see him in LA?" I asked
"Funny thing is, I have bumped into him twice. Once at Tower Records up on Sunset - he was looking in the Morrissey section."
"And another time at Mr. Chows."

I then asked about the Cult and he said RIP.

  • Many moons ago, I used to run a fan club for Ellen Foley. Her first album (1979) "Nightout" was produced by Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson. Ellen then went on to have her second album produced by Mick Jones (her boyfriend at the time) in 1981.

Anyway, I fondly recall visitng just about every record store in the West End of London armed with sticky labels to affix to her records. And this was in the days before shrink wrapping.

I used to phone her up and tell her that Virgin Megastore shifted at least "x" copies in however many weeks.

    Those misty memories.

I've heard that Ian Astbury stole that line from a previous Nosebleeds lyrcis written by Our Moz. Is that so?

  • Did he go Nosebleeds => Slaughter and the Dogs => Southern Death Cult => Death Cult => The Cult,

or did he go Nosebleeds => Theater of Hate => Death Cult = The Cult?

  • "Marr was especially dress conscious after landing a job at X Clothes in Chapel Walks. The shop sold early designer fetish garb, including leather jackets with the arms cut off and quarter-length coats purchased from Johnsons in London's Kind's Road. Coincidentally, Marr's old mentor Billy Duffy was himself working in Johnsons at the time, having recently left the quartet Lonesome No More. It was typical of Johny to keep pace with Duffy, even though they were no longer living in the same city"
from "The Severed Alliance" by Johny Rogan.
That was about 1981, after Johny's stint as president of the student's union in Wythenshawe College of Further Education.
