Last week I met a really nice lady at my job wearing a You are the Quarry tour shirt. We struck up a conversation on how great the last years tour was, and how I went to all of the Wiltern shows and so on. She told me she was happy to meet anyone else that is a fan and we said our goodbyes. Now she came in today and she came to me very happy and cheerful. I thought she was going to ask if I was going to the Convention on Sunday, but to my suprise it was much more bigger. She told me how her very good friend works at the LA Philharmonic and he also works at the Hollywood Bowl. Anyways she told him how great it would be to have Moz play the bowl and with a full Orchestra no less. Well guess what it has happened. Both sides have been talking, they reached a deal. Morrissey finally agreed on a price to play and he asked for there to be a DVD to be made for it. They had a date by the Fall but Moz decided to do a tour in Europe. So it will happen, Moz just has to agree on a date. I was flipping out when I heard this. Please, don't think this is bull. I doubt the nice woman would lie about something like this. If its true, I never thought any show would surpass the Manchester show but I think we have a suitor.

"quarry" was already a limp affair -- can you imagine how tepid those slow-tempo songs would sound against strings? i shudder at the thought and pray that something like this will never happen.

  • I think you made this up.

Not long ago I read an article where Morrissey stated that people had suggested that he sing with an orchestra and he said in no uncertain terms that those people didn't have a clue what he was about and he found the idea horrific.

  • I mean it doesn't sound completely off the wall. It may happen or it may be in the works but whether it is really gonna happen remains to be seen. I dont find anything in the lady's story that seems to be BS because I know of people that also work at both the LA Philharmonic and the Bowl because they are associated. I am gonna look further and talk to some people I know at the Music Center.

  • Emerson, Lake, Palmer, Morrissey will play at the Hollywood bowl along with the LA Phil in an ice capade musical entitled "Eh, I know you and you cannot sing, I said that's nothing you should see me ice skate". The Solid Gold dancer will also be on hand. John Tesh will play selected songs from his new album "At least I'm not Kenny G" during the intermission. The evening will then end with free gondolla rides on the LA river.

  • Ok, so I remember back in 1991 when I had front row seats for Morrissey in Worcester, MA and he had to cancel due to "exhaustion" which was really sad.

Then in 1994 there was the tickets I bought to go see him at Carnegie Hall in New York but that show was never scheduled.

Then I had tickets on back to back nights in Dublin in 99 and it got moved to a single night due to the venue not giving the band enough time.

Then I had all my travel plans booked for Isle of Wight and that got cancelled.

I now have my airfaire secured and my hotel so I can see him at the Hollywood Bowl.

This time I won't be let down! I have a good sense of these things.

  • ...this is something I've always wanted to hear.

Practically all of the B-sides from Viva Hate had an orchestral feel to them...the string quartets.

Even some of The Smiths songs had this sound.

If Metallica can actually sound good backed by an orchestra, how absolutely beautiful will Moz sound?

Portishead did similar with New York Philharmonic Orchestra on their Roseland New York album/show.

I don't think if he did it, anything could top it. Maybe this could be his last performance?

But of all the symphonies he could be backed with, are they the best, or possibly the most convenient?
He at least won't have airplane trouble in getting to the Bowl.

  • This might not be as unbelievable as you might think. My brother works as a member of Bjorks roadcrew and was with her at last weeks Make Poverty History gig in Japan. Her roadcrew were put on contract for a US tour in the fall and heard that this would include at least one night at the Bowl supporting Morrissey who would be playing with "an orchestra".
