Morrissey hardly seems the type to make a fuss on his birthday, but the legendary mope-rock pioneer celebrated his 46th in style Sunday night catching psychobilly band Tiger Army, who were playing one of five sold-out nights at the House of Blues in Hollywood. Tiger Army leader Nick 13 dedicated a cover of "The Loop" to his idol, who was sitting in the balcony....

How did Moz spend his birthday? Sitting in the balcony with some friends at one of the FIVE sold out Tiger Army shows at House Of Blues in Los Angeles!!

If you aren't familiar with Tiger Army they are a psychobilly band, mixing rockabilly and punk rock, with a very healthy dose of 80s new wave.

The band's frontman Nick 13 is a HUGE Moz fanatic and already had put a cover of "The Loop" into the band's set in honor of M's birthday before he was even aware that he was at the gig.

M was in the balcony for the entire set looking very pleased with what he heard, especially by the songs "Rose Of The Devil's Garden" and "Santa Carla Twilight," and of course "The Loop," which had him tapping his fingers and grinning widely.

After the show Moz made his way to the band's dressing room, where he chatted with Nick 13 for a while and posed for photos with the band.

I just wanted to share this with everyone... Last night i attended the sath show at the troubadour and it was a good show i have to say... When the show ended my friend maggie and I decided to stop by morrissey's house and test our luck...
I had never met morrissey before, but ive been close twice! Anyway, we stopped by and of course we weren't the only ones that decided to pay him a visit. I remember my friend maggie tell me to park the car down the hill not to far away from his house, so i did, and we waited for cars to start coming up and see if we would spot morrissey, and a few cars came and went and finally my friend maggie saw a brown jeep come and she said that hes been seen in that kind of car lately...

so we rolled down the windows to see if we could hear anything as the jeep reached the top and we did, so we turned the car around and went up the hill and we had bad luck once again, we had missed him by and inch... some girls where in shock saying that they couldn't believe it! So we asked what had happened and they said that he had stepped out with like a few body guards and took a few quick pictures with a few people...So maggie and i where dissapointed, truly truly dissapointed... So, we stuck around for a while and this guy came walking up the hill towards this car that was parked right infront of moz's house and it turned out to be his new keyboardest, I wouldn't have recognized him if these girls that were there hadn't.

anyway he said that morrissey and company had just been to the tiger army show and waited for someone to let him in morrissey's house... a little while after the Police showed up and sent us all home... So i then had the idea to wake up early today the next morning after his b-day and go to his house once again, i had a gut feeling he would come out, and so i told maggie i would do that and she wanted to come along... So today, i woke up around 8am got ready, picked up my acoustic guitar, and a painting of morrissey i put together and headed for maggie's house...picked maggie up around 9:30am and got to morrissey's around 10am... we waited outside, there was no one but us... i figuered he had been up late so if he was gonna come out it would have to be around noonish...

so we waited and i played my guitar for maggie.. did some morrissey imitations for her and about an hour later... this guy comes out of morrissey's house with some trash and gladioles and sees us and he says good morning to us, he seemed to have a british accent... he smiled and seemed really nice, so then maggie decides to ask him if morrissey was home and he said i think hes upstairs... So then he went back in and so we waited... about almost an hour later we hear the front gate opening and we finally see the person we wanted too, morrissey comes out with that guy and i say hello sitting from the car, morrissey kindly says hello and is walking to his car garage... so i get off the car and i ask him if i could have something signed, he kindly said yes i popped my trunk open and i take out this painting of him that i made and my guitar and he kindly signs both... he kind of chuckles as he sees the painting and asks me if i did it and when i did it, i told him about a year ago.. so then we take pictures with him and i told him by the way happy bday and he said oh thank you it was a fantastic great night i really enjoyed it..... so then i said, oh, i heard you guys went to a show, and he said yes tiger army, do you know them? and i said no, but maggie does...

So then i asked if it was a good show and he said, yes it really was, so then i told him that we had gone to the hooligan show at the troubadour and he said how was that and we said good... i asked if he had seen them perform and he said, only on tape and then i asked what he thought of them and he said, um i really don't know what to say.... haha, i dont know what that meant.. and so he did mention that tiger army had played and M song, i don't know there music so i looked at maggie and said m song? since she knows tiger army, and she said m song? and he said my song and kind of laughed... Morrissey seemed to laugh quite a bit, seemed like a nervous laugh... so then i just told him well we don't want to keep you waiting so we will go, shook his hand again and said goodbye, maggie said i will never forget this day ever... and he said oh, you will...

  • Don't know why but it just doesn't ring true somehow. "...this guy comes out of morrissey's house with some trash and gladioles and sees us and he says good morning to us, he seemed to have a british accent..."

"...morrissey kindly says hello and is walking to his car garage..."
I've to his house and I don't think he needs to go outside to get into his garage.

I'm just a doubter...I'd like to see the pictures that are claimed to have been taken.

omg. i was there. after the sath show, my sis, her friend and i decided to stop by at moz's house!!! when we got to the top of the hill, it was packed with cars. i managed to squeeze in between the front of his steps. everyone there thought that moz was home cause all his lights in his house were on!!! all of a sudden, this jeep cherokee gets there and i see someone in a suit covering there face, then i realize before they get out of the car that's moz!!! jeese (the new guitar player) lighly bumps into moz's garage as all the fans run to moz. moz gets out of the car and shakes peoples hands and says hello. i hand over a flower to moz and my sisters friend lets him know that it's my 21st b-day!!! moz wishes me a "happy birthday" and makes his way into his house!!! as moz walks uo the steps to his front door, all the fans begin to sing "Happy Birthday" to him!!!

no one there leaves and everyone is just astonished on whom they just met, including me!
about 15 min. later my sister notizes the keyboardist walking up the hill. we gladly ask him for an autograph and as soon as he calls moz to let him in, a cop shows up wanting everyone to leave. everyone starts there engines and makes there way out.

this was the best birthday ever!!! there couldn't be any other way to celebrat my 21st b-day!!!

  • The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Friendly though your sentiments may have been, it's obvious he was embarrassed by the whole affair. As your story went on it went from sweet to worrying and then on to just plain scary.

I would never do anything other than perhaps drive by it and maybe take a picture (if ever I find myself in Beverly Hills). Waiting outside the gates is just.. stalkerish..

I'd feel like too much of a creep. But, to each his own I suppose.

To worship at home is fine, to pester at a gig is also fine. Hey, even perhaps if you were to bump into him in a store or something. All are fine, and not things he would be justified in complaining about (which I'm sure he wouldn't) as he is an Icon.. but going to his private domain is out of order. Like someone else said, does it not occur to you that when he sees people at his gate he thinks of John Lennon and wonders if it's 'his turn', sometimes?

Then again like the anonymous fella said, the more you piss him off the more likely it is he'll Come Back to Camden.

    YAY, FANGURRLS!!!

  • Trash, - and gladioli: so Morrissey! And who’s the new keyboard player? Does the house look like in the documentary, all the lush foliage outside and a palatial building? Up till recently, all thinking was supposed to be done in the brain, but then nerves were found in the stomach, which seem to serve a similar function. Your gut-instinct proves the point. Also to achieve excellence, the two most important qualities it is claimed are humility and perseverance, and your story demonstrates that as well. You were blessed, and saved from overstepping the line by a reserve of courtesy and respect!
