I think the good folks of Morrissey-solo might find this interesting - personally I wouldn't give it house-space, but its really well done, for that sort of thing...

Morrissey character toby jug by Gary Seymour

Item number: 7310317201

Unique lifesize character-toby jug of Morrissey. This is a prototype of a forthcoming limited edition set of 30 Morrissey character jugs, part of a range including teapots and busts. Modelled, produced and individually signed and dated by Gary Seymour, an established and highly collectable English potter. It is a contemporary likeness of Morrissey, which celebrates his ‘comeback’ year of 2004. The machine gun handle is significant as it represents the logo of Morrissey’s own record label, ‘Attack Records’ and is, of course, featured on his ‘You Are The Quarry’ album cover. The character jug is made in a semi porcelain white earthenware, slipcast from the mould Gary made of his original clay model, and hand painted and finished in a transparent glaze. This is a big piece, measuring H: 30cm D: 21cm W: 19cm.

  • I know what you're trying to do. You're trying to make me and other art-lovers have a nervous breakdown.
Ha! But my nerves aren't made of porcelain Gary!

No Gary, this won't be "a museum piece one day". Your brain will, though!
I can't believe he has made 29 other pieces. I'm gonna be sick.

  • We all know how hard it is to draw or sculpt Morrissey. Still, you have to appreciate the efforts. True, this one looks more like Moz than some of the paintings and drawings we've seen in the past, but it looks a little too much like Patrick Warburton aka "Puddy" from Seinfeld fame.

  • If you're going to spend more time than's healthy on creating something like this you should get the details right. Firstly the hair, secondly the chin, thirdly the eyes. The nose is good though.

I like the gun because it makes me laugh. As if anyone's gonna think 'Well, I'm not sure about the actual jug... it DOES looks a bit like Alec Baldwin, yeah, and no, nothing like Morrissey, but saying that it does come with a sort of strange looking 30's gun thing.....Okay! I'll take five! Gimme gimme gimme!"

The last laugh will come to whoever buys this turning up on the Antiques Roadshow in 30 years time and having it valued at £50,000 because Morrissey is, by 2035, the new Elvis. Or a new God. Or Prime Minister.

  • It's like Morrissey without any X-chromasones -- too male. A bit too Americanized in the jaw line, and the eyes are wrong. That tacky Elvis bust you see everywhere does recall Elvis, this just doesn't recall Moz. Keep on moldin'.

    That must be it.

And, hold your breath, the severe case of mugness is coming. (Because yes, there are matching mugs.)
