Belligerent Ghoul sends the link: Patti Smith to host arts festival - BBC News

Excerpt:

...The 58-year-old US singer of Because the Night told The Observer newspaper that the festival would be her response to these "material, exploitative and greedy times".

"It is important we explore the new, but we should also salute the best art there is, aesthetically and spiritually," she said.

Last year's Meltdown festival, directed by the ex-Smiths star Morrissey, included appearances by singer Jane Birkin, Nancy Sinatra and playwright Alan Bennett.

He also persuaded punk band The New York Dolls to reform for a reunion show.

  • This truly is wonderful news. Last year Morrissey, this year Patti Smith. They have fantastic taste at the Royal Festival Hall, it would appear. It will be really interesting to see who she books and to see some of her influences, circa Moz last year with the New York Dolls, and to see what she thinks is worth mentioning in the contemporary arts. It would be a cloud nine scenario if she asked Morrissey to play! but that wouldn't happen, as obviously, he was last year curator. Anyway, hopefully this will mean that Patti herself will be storming the stage, which was one of my wishes this year, to see her live.

    Mr Smith.

  • was the "Redondo Beach" cover, that MORRISSEY extensively played last year, a mere coincidence?
