Sunday, March 13, 2005--London Bookfair (the following is taken from an email review of last weekend's London Bookfair):

Another international legend was also still looking for an American home as of this writing. In a fittingly melodramatic auction last month, Smiths frontman and cult hero Morrissey sold his memoir for a reported two million pounds to Penguin U.K. (after reportedly rejecting a deal with Faber because the seven-figure price was too low). At the fair, the recently assembled Inkwell Management was handling foreign sales, with no deal immediately in place. Morrissey is of course the mopey recluse who rarely talks to the media. In the post-Chronicles age (speaking of media shyness), he's expected to fetch a solid price even in the U.S.

  • Of course Moz is going to fetch a good price for this book over here. He may not be on MTV every day, or come out on the news often, but more people are finding out about him. Then, there's the chance publishers won't think enough people will buy it to make a good enough profit. If he doesn't, then i'll pay the $35-$40 bucks for the UK release. Wouldn't you?

    ...and how?
  • Why sell your life story for peanuts? If I was you , I would tease the publishers to a frenzy. Please do not go down the easy route - such as Boy George - You can demand a LOT more. It would be SO disappointing to have a "ALL TELL" Morrissey autobiograpnhy. PLease do not do it - Boy Georges Latest one was VERY embarrassing and just simply A LOAD of rubbish!

  • It was fortunate that Morrissey held off on putting the finishing touches on the book last year. His massive re-found success recently should add an extra luster and invite a lot of upbeat editing from him even before adding those open chapters.

It’s probably safe to say also that it’s not just because he’s a pop-star whose music has meant so much more over the years and affected many people deeply and lastingly in comparison to other charting musicians, that this book will be widely welcomed. Morrissey is a powerful character in other ways too, someone whose authentic integrity, good humour and stable values have become more clearly inspiring; who has penetrating head-turning views on what’s going on in the world, and who’s earned ultimate admiration for his formidable cultural influence on society, both in the Smiths and as a solo artist.

More and more ‘we look to (Moz) for the language we use’ – the point is being taken at last. This autobiography is set to be a pleasure and a treasure.

  • I hope he doesn't go on about himself a lot in this autobiography lets face it he's a bit dull isn't he?

I mean that bloke he used to knock around with More/Marh sommit like that well anyway he knew a good tune. Good painter too did my cousin's back room a treat.

Yeah, back to the book keep it short and sweet like Britney Spears.
