Last night (Wednesday 12th Jan) was the live countdown of Terry Christian and Conrad Murray’s Top 40 Manchester Tunes of 2004 on BBC GMR. The broadcast celebrated an amazing year for Manchester music.
Morrissey topped the chart with his highest ever-charting single, Irish Blood, English Heart. Also included were superb singles from the likes of Ian Brown, Elbow, Badly Drawn Boy, The Charlatans, The Fall and The Earlies. The chart is also full of tunes from Manchester bands tipped to go massive next year - The Longcut, Loose Canon, Nine Black Alps, Fear of Music, Young Offender’s Institute, Performance and Raw-T.
Even Rowetta made an appearance - as a backing singer on Stazi’s electro effort Love is Lethal.
