  • I found this article to be a marvelous read. I hope others have found this to be true as well. I don't even think Jobriath could have written a nicer article with better sentiment.

The article expressed a lot of the same feelings we- as Morrissey fans- share.

I could not have said it better myself.

    With love,

"a hundred other words blind me with your purity..."
  • I would say Boyish George managed to scribble together a few lines that he thought of AFTER his encounter with Moooorissey. You know the drill, nothing comes to mind when you are faced with a more articulate and wittier foe; only AFTER is the muse heard. No doubt he wrote this unimportant essay during his smoke-break at the M.A.C. store in the Beverly Center, Los Angeles.
Sad really. O'Dowd, where have ye gone?

  • I've always admired Boy George (if perhaps a little sick now of Karma pissing Chameleon) and I'm reading his autobiography at the moment too, which has only made me like him all the more. Although it's probably not a parallel many would make, he has in common with Morrissey the very honest way he speaks all the time, as opposed to the "Oh, I just LOVE Bob Nobody" or whoever it's cool to be championing at the time which is so common in the music business. (I say music business. I'm looking at you, Catherine Deeley). Also, and you're going to have to forgive the fact that I can find no better way of putting this, they're both very English pop stars, and both articulate and intelligent speakers. The article is lovely, just because it is so honest (again, can't think of a better word). It has also made me really understand what was wrong about Mark Simpson's Saint Morrissey - shameless fawning is no form of flattery. There's little if any acknowledgement of the "cantankerous, complicated and cripplingly confusing" Morrissey we know and love. And I for one love him just the way he is. Fawning not intended.

The first one was called 'Take it like a man' and it is really good - outspoken, scandalous, flamboyant and perhaps a bit too much, sort of like the Boy himself. He's got a new one coming out, covering the last 10 years, called 'Straight'.

"... turn popular song into sickness"
  • I like it. I really do. The essay is very fluid in its telling. And of course, he says great things about Morrissey. Like a fan's account.

Hope we can also see Moz writing something like this.

  • Boy George has actually talked about Morrissey several times before. The message is always the same: Morrissey is a lyrical genius but not a very nice person...Whatever the facts are, I do commend him for being able to keep the two separate (though he never mentions one without the other :)).

  • ...or tell him that you love him because he will think you are a fool."

I think no truer words have been spoken (written).

Morrissey loves the attention the fans give him, but I would bet that after a show or appearance, he laughs to himself about the adulation the fans have for him.

And I think this is why he mentions Julia so, so often. It's not that he regards her so highly for attending every show...I think it is a joke on her that she DOES attend every show...that she nothing else in life to do "than follow me."

Does the picture of Will Durst in that "Hatful of Hallow" t-shirt come to mind to anyone else?
