Ex-Smiths make Christmas comeback. Individually, that is...

Shorts new items repeats Johnny Marr's claim that they'll be no Smiths reunion stating his "tenuous business relationship" with Morrissey. Marr is working on the music for a C4 drama called Shameless as well as the new Healers album due 2005. Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce meanwhile are touring with the "best lyricist I've worked with since Morrissey" according to Joyce in Vinny Peculiar including London's Buffalo Bar on November 13th.

"I tried living in the real world, instead of a shell, but before I began, I was bored before I even began!"
  • ...the new Healers stuff is better than the debut. I tried my hardest to love that album and play it often, but hardly any of the songs really "stuck" or stayed in my head beyond an hour. "The Last Ride" was a great single, but seemed to be all production and Johnny is obviously not a natural singer as his voice is often heavily mixed (a'la Ian Brown) in the music. I think he's still in "discard anything remotely Smiths-esque" in the studio which is badly affecting the quality of his overall output.

I think I saw a comment on here months ago about the Healers "They're like your cousin's embarrassing pub band" and as much as I tried to disagree, the description unfortunately rang very true.

  • I saw them recently in Edinburgh and as the days pass, I like them more and more. Definitely a group to check out.

She said, "Eh, I know you, and you cannot sing," and I said, "that's nothing, you should hear me play piano..."
  • Because this is Morrissey-solo you dipshit, NOT Johnny Marr Fans Inc.

  • What do you know of Johnny's work? The first Healers album was lame, so have you heard the new stuff? Is it maginificent? Is Johnny back on form? If so, then the new Marr album WILL knock the spots off Quarry, which I believe to be only an average Morrissey album, and not musically very inspired, whereas Johnny at this best is a musical genius. I believe Johnny CAN make a magnificent record, but he must let go and not dispense with all 'Smiths-esque' material as a matter of policy. Morrissey's best solo record, the superb 'Vauxhall and I', is now ten years past, so 2005 might be Johnny's year. Maybe he's fed up with accusations of being lacklustre these days - maybe Marr is determined to prove himself again. Doubtful, though, because Johnny will still be writing the lyrics for the next Healers album, so presumably that aspect at least will still be rather dire.

Anyway, Q, please explain your "trust me on this one my friends" comment - I'd LOVE to be able to rush out next year and buy a brilliant new record from Johnny Marr.

  • Yeah, Electronic are so essential. Moz has come up with some real stinkers in his time, but the vast majority of the stuff Marr's attached himself to makes even the lowly Maladjusted look like the Beatles' Revolver by comparison. Seriously, name one record Marr's played on that can compete with solo Moz at his best. The The's album? That track he gave to Bryan Ferry? His work with Chris Vrenna?

I will take you from this sickness, dinner parties and champagne. I'll hold your body and make it sing again.
  • According to you - you complete tosser Quentin - Morrissey will be dead from Aids (that's the disease YOU suggested he may have - remember?) or was it from topping himself? Or have you been too busy slagging off those writing sincere thoughts about John Peel's passing to recall your many faux pas' (that's social blunders to you)?

Guilty of all of the above, Your Honour.

You need to think before you post. You are a most offensive individual. And BTW: we are not your friends and do not trust you. Wanker.
